View Full Version : Scion head unit in another car
Renix 01-01-2004, 07:54 PM Hi,
I currently have a '94 Tercel and I'm seeking for a CD/MP3 player. Surfing on the web, I spotted the Pioneer Scion head unit because it's one of the only one who doesn't have all those flashy colors and useless settings for my needs. It also seems to be pretty cheap (saw one at 120$ on eBay) and (i think) of good quality.
Before trying to acquire one, I have some questions:
 Does it worth it?
 Do you think that a canadian Toyota dealer can order one? (if so, is there any part number?)
 Are the dimensions double DIN standard?
 Is the wiring harness the same as my Toyota or will I need another harness (Tercel-to-Generic, Generic-to-Scion)?
Thanks in advance, and don't be shy if you have other advices

scroll down youll see he put on in his four runner. id pm him to see if its worth it.
showpaojoe 01-01-2004, 08:06 PM its double DIN standard and if your wiring harness is the same as a toyota MRS then it will pop right in your car cuz those guys are the ones who've been snatching our stereos. look in the sales section cuz somebody usually has one for sale
Cheif_Thundercloud 01-02-2004, 12:36 AM Some guys in Canada are putting them in their echos.
Granth77 01-02-2004, 12:52 AM I'm the one who put the Scion head unit in my 4Runner mentioned in the post above. Everything worked out perfectly. I'll be picking up the Scion XM radio receiver in the next couple of weeks. Email me if you have any questions.

hahajoey 01-02-2004, 01:36 AM i put it in my HONDA CR-V.
i bought a REVERSE stereo plug for a TOYOTA.
then a female plug for my cr-v. combined them together..
and voila DONE.. but the toyota and honda
dimmers operate in reverse.. so + goes to - and vice versa
for the dimmer. it worked 100% and was BUMPING.
ive came to realize a headunit does more than the speakers do
like i had what i thought was a sorry system. i switched headunits
and DAMN totally nice!
Renix 01-02-2004, 01:55 AM Cool, your answers are interesting, so don't be affraid to PM me if you have a head unit to sell (I prefer single-CD because of the price, but if you have a nice deal I won't reject 6 discs).
If you wonder how much it worth, on eBay I saw two people selling their single-CD head units. One sell it at 86$, the other one at 120$. Something around those prices will interest me.
EDIT: Here are the links to the eBay head units (to prove the prices I wrote):

Renix 01-02-2004, 04:17 AM you can also e-mail at renix@rocketmail.com
quadraphonic 01-06-2004, 12:11 AM You might be out of luck with the tercel though.. a buddy of mine put the Scion HU in his echo and was going to put the echo's unit in his girlfirend's tercel, it wouldn't fit with the bezel on, so you can install it, but you'll have to shave or "be creative" with the front bezel to get it back on.
Renix 01-06-2004, 12:17 AM :?
What year was the Tercel? The '91-94 ones or the '95+ ?
The echo stock radio is a single DIN, no?
I'll need to check that, probably it's just the front end of the radio that's a bit too large...
quadraphonic 01-06-2004, 12:49 AM echo is a 1.5 - 2 DIN size depending on which one it is, the hole is a double DIN.
The tercel was a 99.
Renix 01-06-2004, 02:17 PM So it's not the same Tercel generation as mine. I'll take a chance, the bezel between both generations are quite different.
BTW I'm still interested to buy a head unit
surfcitylocal 02-12-2006, 08:43 PM Anyone know if the 06 iPod head unit will fit in a 05 Camry?
