Default Questions on new TC and supercharging.

Hi,
I'm about to get a 2008 TC that will be my daily driver. I will be putting alot of miles on it daily due to my commute. So reliability is my main concern, but I do want to make the car as fun and quick as I can.

I just sold my highly modified Porsche 944 Turbo so I'm pretty familier with the basics of tuning cars. That car was very easy to make big increases in power with bolt-on stuff. My goal is to get the TC to put down a reliable 200-250 at the wheels. Hopefully enough to get it somewhere in the 14s. Basically just a quick little car, not a high-strung, unreliable race car.

I was planning on eventually getting the TRD supercharger and exhaust. Will that and a few other simple bolt ons get me to those power levels?

Thanks for the help!
~Josh

well, a supercharged tc will make 200 bhp, and can make a high 14 second 1/4 mile time if your good enough. but good header back exhaust will pu____ over 200, and some better than the stock tires.

oh, but don't get the trd exhaust if you are looking for more power, it is just for sound really.

x2

The TRD exhaust is all cosmetic, no performance gain as far as I know.

If you're looking for good gains AND sound, go with the Injen exhaust.

And yeah, the s/c is your best bet if you don't want a "high strung" car.

Cool, thanks! I love the idea of all the turbo kits available for the TC, but I think that's probably a dumb thing to do to a brand new daily driver. If I can just get the car to around 14 sec than I'll be satisfied. I would imagine that traction will have alot to do with it, but I'm more interested with mid-range power than stoplight starts.

So from what ya'll are saying it sounds perfectly doable and realistic. Just a S/C and basic bolt-ons. I was just thinking about the TRD exhaust for deeper sound, I don't want it to sound too loud or raspy.....

well, if you get a header, you'll need a quiet exhaust set up to tame it because most combinations of aftermarket headers and exhaust result in rasp and need to be remeded with one or two large resonators.

If you're interested in the sound volume and emissions legality, I would only look at an axle-back exhaust, not the header-spipe-midpipe bit.

Instead, I would look at the 9.5lb pulley, piggyback management (emanage, AEM FIC), and a tune. You would likely hit 230 whp and still be emissions legal.

Keep in mind though, all these things will kill the S/C and powertrain warranty (except the axleback exhaust)

yes, not quite as much as with a turbo, but because you are increasing the volume of air going into the engine, and the amount of fuel being injected into the cylinders, you therefore have even more exhaust gas being generated per combustion and a healthy exhaust system just helps evacuate it.
