View Full Version : *JDM RECARO SEAT RESTORATION* UPDATE 12/19/07
TCpete 10-17-2007, 04:28 PM UPDATE on page 2:
UPDATE on page 3:
UPDATE on page 5:
so recently i aquired a set of nice old school jdm recaro srd's in red for 200 bucks... the seats were in bad shape but the price was good for the seats that had minty fresh boulster pads and cushoning... it seems thats the seats were NEVER sat in and only one of the boulster paddings broke due to lack of fabric and probably impropper seat exit/entry. other then that the seats only need re-wrapping due to the previous sellers dog who decided it was cute to chew on the seat (moron he was for letting the dog do that)
anyways.. he are the pics i took... they show all the damage to both seats... im very nostalgic when it comes to old school seats so i really couldnt pass up this awesome deal + these being NOT suede havent fadeed or aquired wrinkles in the fabric from the 8+ years these seats have since i looked up the SRD serial number and found out they were produced A LONGGGG TIME AGO. Enjoy this tragedy to a nice comfy ___ seat i already farted in and welcomed into my home. :P

TLC will be begin next week hopefully
- ill be either doing an all black with white recaro logo and red stitching or all blue with recaro in white or all red with recaro logo in white (keeping it somewhat original) but havent decided yet what to do...i tossed a poll to hear suggestions..pls no suggestions on other color combos or options..im not into 2 tones or other colors.
ADRdesignCo 10-17-2007, 04:32 PM watching... those will look sick :)
oh yeah.. blue cause itll match the blue on your rims :).
maybe black with blue jersey inserts and then white recaro with blue stich around the recaro :)
tcridinclean 10-17-2007, 05:19 PM blue!!!
ippskidder 10-17-2007, 05:25 PM BLACK
caveman 10-17-2007, 05:55 PM RED!!!!, I just cant see your car rollin with any other color plus those recaros just look sik in red
/thread
chicotunner07 10-17-2007, 06:04 PM ive never seen srds in a tC, do u think ull be the first?
TCpete 10-17-2007, 07:21 PM ive seen ppl on here with recaros already.. in fact.. 3 tc with recaros.. 1 set of sporlines in a tc, 2 sets of speeds in a tc.. not SRD's... i havent seen anyone with srd's in their tc yet... maybe the socal peeps have it already but not posted as much as i've checked
tCtCtC 10-17-2007, 10:32 PM def. #3
tcridinclean 10-17-2007, 11:09 PM go with blue pete it matches your wheels...
if u go red do u wanna trade interior panels? im thinking about going a different color with my interior
tC9o9 10-18-2007, 12:29 AM white cars need red seats.
nebster 10-18-2007, 12:39 AM red seats with takatas. do it.
FMtC_krstnmj 10-18-2007, 12:46 AM I believe the owner had a past stormy relationship .. Keepin' ma eyes on this .. Good luck ..
1_kLEan_tC 10-18-2007, 01:37 AM red.....
iKONA 10-18-2007, 02:29 AM This guy had to keep cats in his car.
FMTC08 10-18-2007, 03:07 AM red
RICANTC 10-18-2007, 03:41 AM Damm Pete , its hard 2 say blue cause of the matching.....but oh red is sexy!!
PlayinWithFire 10-18-2007, 03:48 AM if u need any parts or anything for ur seats hit me up man...
and red with takatas would be bad ___.
rolloutrs1 10-18-2007, 01:57 PM dang... watching!
TCpete 10-18-2007, 03:29 PM go with blue pete it matches your wheels...
if u go red do u wanna trade interior panels? im thinking about going a different color with my interior
thanks bro but ill pass.. i have something special in mind for the panels... i got some old recaro gradation fabric in my closet i might brng out.. i dunno yet..
if u need any parts or anything for ur seats hit me up man...
and red with takatas would be bad butt.
yea actually i need sliders and brackets since i got the seats with nothing on them.. so whatever you got shoot me a PM.. im going to be calling wedge engineering to see if i can score some brackets from them at a good deal.. if not im gonna try to get some stock brackets and sliders from our regular seats and see if i can work from that making a new mount points.. (wont be for a while)
this weekend ill be getting quotes on everything i need the 3 color combos...
i love red but down here in miami... cars with red seats tend to get stolen lol..plus everyone and their mom has red seats in a white car.. it looks fresh but also played out.. im leaning towards blue since they match my rims and i love the looks.. its diferent and new and not used alot.. the black how ever is very subtle..less attention getting of all 3 combos.. and the look of black with red stitching is just super sexy.. gives it a nice detail.... ill post up pics of all the combos and also in cars.. (white if i can)....
PlayinWithFire 10-18-2007, 04:04 PM i meant recaro parts... I cant help ya out with sliders. If you needed covers or something I could give u my contact at recaro and you could hit them up for assistance.
as far as brackets go... I just used corbeau ones and drilled extra holes so the recaro would mount. Wedge has em too but they will want like 200.
TCpete 10-18-2007, 04:19 PM i meant recaro parts... I cant help ya out with sliders. If you needed covers or something I could give u my contact at recaro and you could hit them up for assistance.

recaro covers as in the full outter wrap for the top outter section and the 2 bottom boulsters? please define covers?
yea wedges are super expensive...im gonna try to pick up used recaro sliders or universal sliders.. i havent decided yet how im gonn amount them... im more concerned about color....
PlayinWithFire 10-18-2007, 04:24 PM Not covers to go over, covers to replace the current fabric. BTW the jersey material is mad comfy :D.
TCpete 10-18-2007, 04:31 PM yea thats what im talking about.. direct replacements... i know a plce in the UK that sell them.. but red suede is the only option for the full cover... and the center most likely will go jersey for a nice different effect on either of the 3 choices..
tC4italy 10-18-2007, 04:47 PM Gag
u better disinfect that
Dude, what a great project and good find..and deal! I'll be watching this for sure. You really can't beat $200. I was tempted to vote for the "roll o g" look. But I say the black black with white and red stitching.
chicotunner07 10-18-2007, 04:56 PM yea, ull definitely be one of the very few(if any) rollin srds in a tC, i think people tend to stay away from recaros simply because they are associated with Hondas so much, but i honestly dont give a flyin F*** where they came from, recaros are the baddest looking/best feeling seats my butt has ever felt
chicotunner07 10-18-2007, 04:58 PM speaking of stolen red seats, my bro was rollin on some red S2k seats in his EG hatch, they were almost stolen like 5 times, but talk about seats hugging you!! they were very comfortable, if u were on the lean side of course
TCpete 10-19-2007, 01:52 PM s2k seats are nice.. but i try to stay away from them and they bring to much heat with all the s2k thefts lately..
but yea i've sat in sparco's, momo's, f1specs, recaros and carebau seats and by far the recaros have been the best comfort.. even though vision technica's are tremendously comfotable aswell but they are super expensive.. status seats are nice to but very baller lol
chicotunner07 10-19-2007, 03:55 PM hellz yeah, but definitely bang for buck recaros are the best, good luck on mounting them, when ur done ill want to know how u did it, cuz now i want recaros too
TCpete 10-19-2007, 04:04 PM well im probably gonna have to have custom brackets made..and im gonna have to get on honda-tech and see if i can pick up som recaro sliders...probably pick up some wedge engineering brackets.. but thats 180 bucks for both... ill see what i do.. im more worried about the actual re-upholstery more then the mounting..
BTW if you want recaros dirt cheap.. yahoo.jp is the way to go man.
TCpete 10-19-2007, 06:59 PM well so far in the poles.. black on black with red stitching + logo in white is winning ... heres a pic of how it would sorta look
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m56/95civic4dr/Picture1342.jpg
thats a dc5 recaro seat.. yum!..
lol! roll "OG"! ahahaha! its the comfort that matters ;D
1_kLEan_tC 10-20-2007, 04:47 AM wow.....

rolloutrs1 10-20-2007, 11:52 PM that finished pic looks really awesome!!! cant wait for the outcome of this.
That's so sweet. Now I wanna change my seats!! lmao
rolloutrs1 10-22-2007, 03:56 AM any updates for us?
TCpete 10-22-2007, 01:35 PM well im probably gonna have to have custom brackets made..and im gonna have to get on honda-tech and see if i can pick up som recaro sliders...probably pick up some wedge engineering brackets.. but thats 180 bucks for both... ill see what i do.. im more worried about the actual re-upholstery more then the mounting..

google has a japanese translator you can use.. it works fine.. also you should have a YEN conversion open also... u can google that aswell..
UPDATE 1:
this weekend i went to 1 shop only because i was so busy. i explained to them what i wanted and the price they gave me was 800 bucks!!! WITH OUT MATERIALS!!!! ...needless to say i was pist and walked out.. i've done full interiors front and back seats for 600.. and seats just as hard to work on.. this was De Colores in miami.. i still have other places to go to that ill be calling up and visiting this week..
tcridinclean 10-22-2007, 05:14 PM I think theres one around here called nunez brothers or something like that u should check it out pete
TCpete 10-22-2007, 06:01 PM yea they are on my list of places to go to... i have about 10 places to check out in dade county alone.
nebster 10-22-2007, 06:10 PM i'm interested in seeing what they charge you. have you thought about contacting recaro directly and having them sending you new covers then just replacing them yourself?
TCpete 10-22-2007, 06:30 PM im in the process of trying to email them and redoing that part myself.. its not hard to strip them down at all... just takes time..
someone was going to give me their contact at recaro lol.. but im still waiting.. cough cough lol.. j.k
chicotunner07 10-23-2007, 01:50 PM OMG......
so i got the hang of the japanese translator and found this on yahoo.jp
http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g55835134
now if my calculations are correct, those two beautiful recaro seats in great condition, cost only 93 dollars....... HOLY S**T DUDE
is this fo real?? sow the hell would i go about ordering them?
rolloutrs1 10-23-2007, 02:00 PM dang where is that located? shipping will be a lot thou. lol.
good luck tcpete in finding a place that wont charge like a dealership! lol. keep us updated.
nebster 10-23-2007, 02:09 PM 海外発送はしません。(Seller will not ship internationally.)

pretty much... just email the seller.. tell them you are in the US. shipping will be about 150-240 dollars.. give or take.. should be about 7-10 days shipping.. with a tracking number... thats it..
dang where is that located? shipping will be a lot thou. lol.

ill be post up prices as i go along to other places.
chicotunner07 10-23-2007, 06:17 PM damm....i missed where it says seller will not ship internationally, but for a little extra green i dont see why they wouldnt, i mean 93 plus 300(worst case) is still less then 400 for a set of clean ___ recaros, you cant beat that!!
TCpete 10-23-2007, 06:22 PM on ebay US theres 2 sets going for less then 500 and they are old school recaros not ITR ones... u just have to pay attention and ssearch daily.. stuff comes up 24/7 for me
Cabana 10-24-2007, 01:52 AM nice seats! I was just in Miami, shoulda looked you up....keep it clean :)
Cabana 10-24-2007, 01:53 AM btw I voted for gangsta style since I'm rolling dirty on my blitz...or is it rolling on my dirty blitz....
TCpete 10-24-2007, 02:29 PM dam dude u should have looked me up!!.. haha u can roll gangsta on your blitz's and its all good.. however i can roll in seats that look like they got chewed by a dog (which they were actually)
chicotunner07 10-24-2007, 03:06 PM lol, i think whoever sold you the seats should do jail time, animal cruelty, the dog was clearly under-fed, therefore turned on the juicy red recaros.......
one bowl of dog food could have saved the recaros
ippskidder 11-28-2007, 07:38 PM Any updates on the seats? =)
TCpete 12-10-2007, 02:35 PM UPDATE 12/10/07:
OK . so heres the latest bit of updates nothing major but it is an update:
after researching different companies and alternatives in regards to seat brackets and sliders since that was actually a big part. Ive looked at wedge engineering, weapon r, custom and corbeaus. below will be the rundown of how i came to deciding
this is only a rundown for SEAT BRACKETS!!...
wedge engineering:
PRO: brackets will work fine and have plenty of room for adjustment for sliders
CON: 200 bucks for both brackets and THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE SLIDERS!
Weapon r:
PRO: i had 1 user tell me he had no issue with them but im skeptical + cheaper then the wedge brackets
CON: weapon r usually doesnt have some of the greatest products, im no really into putting money into something that hasnt been seen or done on a tc yet + im not sure of their grade steel they are using for the metal which worries me and DOES NOT INCLUDE SLIDERS!
Custom:
PRO: i can design it myself, use the high grade metal and adjust for height before hand
CON: still no sliders, welding and materials will cost me bread and time i dont have.
Corbeaus:
PRO: fitment and quality i know will be good since ive gotten alot of good feed back from their brackets + THEY COME WITH SLIDERS OMG WOW! SWEET! (saves me alot of money and work)(thanks to Nick06tC and BrEaK_AwaY for their feed back, pics, and info!)+price is great and still cheaper then wedge engineering. and sliders are included..amazing lol..
CON: after careful measuring my recaro sliders need to be mounted 16" apart from each other were as Corbeaus stock location is about 11.5 (thanks Nick06tc for that info) but after looking CAREFULLY at the brackets and also measuring the OEM location for the bolts on the tc chasis they are also 16 inches apart and the brackets have small holes in the 16" mark adjacent to the mounting holes which means i should be able to mount the sliders in the exact location they need to be to fit the recaros on....WEE
so after careful measuring and thinking and looking at pictures im going to go with Corbeaus brackets. they are good quality, COME WITH SLIDERS!! (which takes away that head ache from me) and should be able to accomodate the large 16" width i need to mount the sliders onto the seat and then onto the brackets... NOT BAD FOR UNDER 200 WITH SLIDERS!!
ill be getting these for xmas from the wifey lol...and ill take pics and update this thread once i get working on test mounting the seats to the chassis.. from then on its just uphosltery i need to worry about.
LOTS OF PICS AND WRITE UPS TO COME
nebster 12-10-2007, 02:39 PM *cough* 12/10/07 not 11
PlayinWithFire 12-10-2007, 03:29 PM I got one thing u should know... the only issue with the brackets and my recaros is the handle to move em back and forth on the bracket hits the chair so you cant move it all the way up. I am thinking about just bending it or something.
TCpete 12-10-2007, 04:01 PM *cough* 12/10/07 not 11
ninja edit.. what u talkin bout willis! lol... corrected lol
PlayinWithFire" what ever issues like that i have ill j ust modify the bracket.. i dont sit up all the way so im not worried.. but thanks for the info
chicotunner07 12-10-2007, 04:17 PM ninja edit too fass fo mii!!!
lol, glad to hear u solved ur bracket problems, one thing i loved about my civic was all the seats that just dropped in, i had integra seats, and later S2K, both bolted down fine LOL
keep us updated!
TCpete 12-10-2007, 04:25 PM LMAO ^^ yea i use to rock gsr seats in my old eg and they bolted right up with some massaging with a hammer lol.. most seats on hondas do that ... 3 out of the 4 bolt up most of the time.. sometimes u got lucky and got all 4
chicotunner07 12-10-2007, 05:02 PM yeah!! LOL, passengers used to tell me my s2k,s were broken!! "yo man this this is wobbling and it wont recline all the way u got ripped off dude" LMAO
Nick06tC 12-10-2007, 07:04 PM it will all work out with the corbeaus!!
BrEaK_AwaY 12-10-2007, 07:41 PM glad me and nick could help. and *watching* to see the final project.
nebster 12-10-2007, 09:49 PM when you get them take a whole bunch of measurements for me. for some reason nobody with a scion runs brides
TCpete 12-10-2007, 10:04 PM i had brides for about 3 days lol... but i decided to get recaros.. nice red ones also lol.. when u get yours measure your holes.. and ill tell you if they work
nebster 12-10-2007, 10:39 PM aight. i have to wait a sweet 45 days for them to come from japan. dropping that amount of money in seats isn't exactly fun though so we'll see what happens.
TCpete 12-10-2007, 10:42 PM they cant send you measurements.. or u can PM someone who owns a set to measure?
nebster 12-10-2007, 10:43 PM probably both good ideas.
oo0oolala 12-13-2007, 03:09 PM a little late but yea...black...good choice
BrEaK_AwaY 12-13-2007, 03:42 PM aight. i have to wait a sweet 45 days for them to come from japan. dropping that amount of money in seats isn't exactly fun though so we'll see what happens.
that answers your question on why not many tC owners have bride seats. lol =]
nebster 12-13-2007, 03:43 PM yep. but when they come in they'll be awesome. brides are some of the most COMFORTABLE seats out there along with recaros
BrEaK_AwaY 12-13-2007, 03:46 PM yep. but when they come in they'll be awesome. brides are some of the most COMFORTABLE seats out there along with recaros
yeah. i wanted bride at first. but i just didnt wanna spend the $$ on REAL brides. i coulda bought knock offs for cheap. but im not a knock off kinda guy.
nebster 12-13-2007, 03:49 PM plus the knock offs on ebay are HORRIBLE they have no metal in them and they're not safe at all. my friend told me something first when i started and i really do believe in it when he said you ahve to pay to play. so true. i'd rather be individual and pay a little more money then be cheap and get something everyone else has. JUST ME THOUGH
i'm no way saying you're cheap or your car isn't quality, in fact i love your car haha
BrEaK_AwaY 12-13-2007, 03:56 PM plus the knock offs on ebay are HORRIBLE they have no metal in them and they're not safe at all. my friend told me something first when i started and i really do believe in it when he said you ahve to pay to play. so true. i'd rather be individual and pay a little more money then be cheap and get something everyone else has. haha np dude. i didnt assume that at all. if i had the money to blow, id get brides in a heart beat, and sell my corbeaus. (that goes with my corbeau harness too, and id replace it with takata... but again... thats alot of $$ for a harness. haha)
nebster 12-13-2007, 05:33 PM lol yep. dropping 800 on harnesses is hard. sponsorships ftw.
oo0oolala 12-14-2007, 07:00 AM yep. but when they come in they'll be awesome. brides are some of the most COMFORTABLE seats out there along with recaros
+1 ^^
i have ergos II right now but might go with recaro..we'll see next year.
TCpete 12-14-2007, 11:53 AM ^^ post pics lol.. i wana see nice seats...u dont see recaros or brides often in a tc
PlayinWithFire 12-14-2007, 01:57 PM mmmm i <3 my recaros... roomy enough for a daily commute but tight enough to hold me snuggly. My car loves me :D
EPIDEMIC 12-14-2007, 02:05 PM i like thosee
oo0oolala 12-15-2007, 07:35 PM ^^ post pics lol.. i wana see nice seats...u dont see recaros or brides often in a tc
when i get home ok! @ work atm.
oo0oolala 12-15-2007, 07:43 PM mmmm i <3 my recaros... roomy enough for a daily commute but tight enough to hold me snuggly. My car loves me :D
indeed, however, with my experience with these snuggly type of seats is that, when girls with..how do you say it...ahh "apple bottom jeans" try to sit on them, i dont know if i feel bad for the girl or the seats lol. well actually i feel bad for my seats cause ____s fawkin expensive lol. -true story.

i paid 280 i believe.
nebster 12-16-2007, 06:28 PM what sliders did you use?
oo0oolala 12-16-2007, 08:25 PM well, they actually gave me sparcos sliders which didnt work out well with the brackets if i remember right...its been a while so i might be wrong, so i had it custom done.
TCpete 12-17-2007, 06:49 PM niceeee seats oo0oolala.... now thats what i like to see in tc's.. G parts.. not ebay G parts
ippskidder 12-17-2007, 07:32 PM daymmmmm those seats look titeeeeeee =)

thanks man, i cant wait to see yours when its complete.
ippskidder 12-19-2007, 01:27 PM Still deciding whether I should get recaro/bride in the future, or just change the upholstery in the seats to red microfiber. Money, money, money, moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, money. lol :P
nebster 12-19-2007, 01:40 PM recaro is very nice, with bride they'll set you back at least 2000 with the seat prices and at least add on another 750 for shipping (they're not made in the US, only shipped from japan). Recaro is slightly cheaper but a GREAT seat and recovering would be the cheapest.
