Radiator fan not working, gurgling sound from engine
Hey people,
Was wondering if anyone else has come across these symptoms before?
Had our 1st Gen xB for nearly a year now, has been driving great, but just recently I noticed these symptoms...
1. I hear a gurgling sound after driving it awhile. I'm thinking the coolant is not doing it's job because just lately also discovered that,
2. I haven't heard the electric fan kick in for a couple of days.
3. The coolant overflow reservoir is not low, so it appears to have enough coolant, although that may not be the case.
So my thoughts are,
1. It's possibly a faulty fan sensor, or
2. There is an air pocket somewhere, or
3. The thermostat isn't working.
Anyone have any other clues?
Thanks,
Dave

Well, not yet. That's the odd thing. I have noticed the overflow coolant reservoir pop its lid once, and there has been some coolant leakage, but no indicator on the dash to say it is overheating.
Today, I heard the radiator fan come on again, so it appears the temperature sensor is working. I'll keep an eye on it.

Sounds like the fan is not work, relay, fuse blown or stat is stuck. Regardless, I would stop at an advance auto and pull a diagnostic and see if you can access the temp menu to see what your water temp is. It doesnt boil or gurgle til over 230 degrees since the anti freeze with the water increases the boiling poiny gtom 212 to much higher. Lets not forget the pressure too ups that 3 degrees per lb of air pressure.
