Default short ram problem

i bought a ebay short ram for my tc and i installed it correct and everthing was plugged in. when the car starts it idles for about 2 seconds then dies i then unplugged the battery and the same thing happened. so then i unplugged the O2 sensor right next to the filter and it ran fine but the check engine light was on but i expected that. i started it a few more times after that and it started and ran fine but a few times after that it would die. so i took the intake off and put the stock on back on...what is the problem???

what year tC do you have, and what year kit do you have? the 05-06 intake sensor is different then the 07-08 kits

Also, ebay parts tend to not work as well as some of the better R & D parts from major companies

#1 - You got it from eBay.

I'm not sure entirely what the literal problem is, but poor quailty intakes (like from eBay) will come with either no power gain, power loss, or these problems, practically. Unless it's an actual brand-name product, please stay away from them!

Ebay intake is no different than one you pay 200 bucks for other than minor fitting issues they are all 2.5-4" diameter bent metal pipe, and a filter. I have a ebay CAI thats worked fine as I have on every other car I have owned. You will see the same gains from a ebay SR or CAI as you will from any other.
Now your car is pulling in to much air going lean and dieing, you make sure everything is tight (filter, screws to maf, IAT line) everything needs to be plugged in checked and rechecked. next make sure it is connected to the throttle body right the TC's is angled so it can be awkward to get on and the first TC I test drove had a secret weapon SR put on wrong and it popped off the TB, car choked and died so make sure all the rubber sleeves and clamps are own right. IF all that checks out make sure you didn't damage any wires connecting to the MAF or accidentally unplug anything. if all that isn't the problem post up a pic of the setup maybe we could help more.

I will believe that when I see the same stock car's stock dyno then different dynos with different intakes on that same car with the same driver and settings on the dyno . the only company i have ever seen that and prove their intake made more power was JLT for mustangs and that because the use a heat shielded plastic over a meatl pipe for their intakes.

There isn't really anything you can go to a CAI to make it be more efficient unless you can dissipate heat or possibly change certain bends but IMO 2 crank hp extra isnt worth 130 bucks when i paid 30 for my ebay one.

yea, i agree, check tyhe MAF. its probably not plugged in all the way. give it a good check. and who says a CAI puts out 2 crank hp... ive seen CAI yield 7-12 whp on certain cars.

I said 2 cranks hp more over the ebay if even that, and 7-12 whp is in a car that has other mods 7-12 crank is about right, but if your seeing 3 to the wheels with just an intake your doing good. CAI's were mainly introduced to promote colder intake temperatures and an increased throttle response they are not meant to be a power gain mod, but more of a catalyst to increase the performance of other mods

Im not trying to start anything just saying dont bash the kid for buying a CAI off ebay help him with his problem. not everyone has 200 bucks to blow on an intake. IMO Id rather get a 30 dollar CAI off ebay and a UD pulley or light weight crank pulley and see 11hp to the wheels for my 200 bucks rather than get a 200 dollar cai and see 3.
