Default TRD drop requires new Struts?

Hi all, Well I'm new to this forum, and I just recently brought my Tc, and I have been reading alot on drop kits, springs, and also wear and tear. Well I called the dealership from where I brought my car, and I was ordering the TRD spring set to drop my car, and I asked the service person if I kept my stock struts and replaced the springs, would the struts be damaged because of the different angle of load. He said, and I quote "ohh no, TRD wouldn't put something on the market if its going to damage the components of the vehicle itself", I also asked the parts manager when I was ordering and he said the same thing. Then I asked another service person at the same dealership and she said that the struts would need to be replaced because of the seals inside of the struts would give.
So WTH? Who am I supposed to believe? Anyone have any advice, opinions, or have had their stock struts and car lowered for a while. Please help.

The TRD drop is not extreme enough to cause significant loss in strut life. I have been running them for somewhere around 30,000 miles on stock struts with zero issue. If you go with a more extreme drop or a huge change in spring rates, you will need new struts.

Thanks engifineer, I was thinking since its not a severe drop, and its a factory spring, the struts would hold just fine.

Get the TRD struts/shocks. Not to say they wont work but the stock ones arent really designed to work with lowering springs which is one of the reasons TRD offers them. Plus, getting the upgraded struts/shocks makes much more of handling performance improvement than just the springs.

Almost 2 years on stock struts with TRD Springs and zero problems. If you can afford the TRD Struts, I say do them both at the same time. Saves you some ducket$ if you have them installed by somebody other than yourself.

Next time you buy parts for your tC, check out this site...

trdsparks.com

Same parts you buy at the dealership for a lot less dough!!

Default shocked about the drop!

When you replace the oem springs with the TRD on the oem shocks you will notice the ride is a little more bouncy. please remember to get an alignment done as well so you don't eat up your tires. other than that happy cruisin
