79 out of 115, which IMO isn't bad for my second time autoXing and first time with the xA
check out the cars below me :D see the 05 Lotus Elise? the guy was taking it pretty easy on that damn thing..
i came in 3rd in FSP. somehow a Mini Cooper S got his way into my class, which i don't understand, as most other coopers were in different classes, but he pretty much guaranteed himself a 1st place trophy by squeezing into FSP.
some of the best fun i've ever had. if any of you have the chance, definitely go and give AutoX a try!

I'm also looking forward to getting my xA RS 1.0 out on the autox. The traction control and stability control it has combinded with the 45 profile tires has really impressed me with it's cornering. It seems like no matter how hard I try, I can't get it to understeer or oversteer, even when turning the traction control of.
In 3 weeks, I'll have it at the race track, but I won't be doing a whole day with it though. I'm sure the brakes won't hold up well with the stock fluid, stock pads, and rear drum brakes so I don't want to push it too much.

hit one cone on my second run, nicked it actually, then my last run was o/c so it didn't count toward my total, which sucked cuz it was a 44second pass. .
car did very well! a bit of understeer, and of course lack of power (with more power i would have seen at least a half second better time, as the far corner was really power-demanding..
also, the factory unlimited slip differential really did me no good :D

the xa actually understeers a lot less than i had predicted. i think it's the high rearend putting more weight on the back wheels.

the back of my car was lightened quite a bit.. had the folding seat back and cushions out as well as the spare, all tools and passenger seat.. at least 100 lbs :)

We've learned to use the xA and xB like go cars-just make sure that you are accelerating and minimize any braking. I wish I was there to see the other peoples reactions. They learned to respect the toaster the last time we went out. A month ago we took our 2 tC's out and posted good results. They bumped me a class becaus of the strut tower brace so I had some pretty heady competition. Superb job again on your results.

However, my xA is stock. I was 7th out of 11 for first timers. The club I auto-x'd with did classes by experience, not by mods. I was a second behind a Camaro SS and I beat a Miata, 240sx,and a 1st gen Supra.
Let me say..the stock tires SUCK.
I need new tires BAD. My best run was 53.0 flat. I let a seasoned instructor drive my car and he ran a 52.5, so I would say my driving is pretty decent? He very much agreed that tires would make a huge difference for the car. I was understeering a bit but I had a blast..
I forgot to tell the instuctor how short 1st gear was but he tried to downshift from 1st to 2nd around a corner. Needless to say, he mostly just made a lot of engine revs,haha.
I think it's awesome that other xA owners autocross. We really should have a seperate forum to discuss setups and whatnot.

I assume your guys are running in an SCCA event. What class is the stock XA in? Also is the XA rs1.0 considered stock, or do they bump it into street prepared due to the wheels?
Also what class does the XB run in? and what about a stock Hot Lava?

SCCA rules state if it came from the factory with those parts, they're considered "stock" so anything the RS1 comes with from the factory (not dealer installed) keeps you in stock class.
i ran my xA in FSP due to my suspension Mods
F class, Street Prepared.

Haha dude I went to the 1/8th mile track Saturday night and ate a civic coupe myself. The crowd went SILENT when I did a 10.62 @ 64 to his 11.09 @ 63.
Then I backed it up Sunday in an SCCA event with a First Place!(I was the only one in my class haha) in FSP (it took the judges like 20 minutes to figure out what class to put me in) Awesome job man!
I wish I had some pics that my friends took. I'll try and post them soon.

First off if you haven't understeered or oversteered, you haven't even come close to pushing the limits of your xA yet.
Second, you don't race a full day in SCCA. You work the track for the most part and you usually get 4-5 runs in during the day. Your stock brakes should be fine. They hauled my box down just fine, run after run. I didn't notice any fade at all. Hell even when really getting into it in some canyon runs, i've never actually noticed any brake fade. I figured it would be really bad, but I haven't warped my brakes in the 16k miles i've put on it.
I used to have a civic and if you stopped hard from anything over 80mph you could just expect warped factory rotors all the way around. I've had a few times where I had to STOMP on the brakes at 120 in my xB to avoid the highway patrol (thank god for Valentine1 radar detectors) and I have yet to have anything but praise for the factory brakes.

I think you miss understood me.
When I said race track, I ment a 3 mile 15 turn race track. I'm quite familier with autoxing. I've done 2+ full seasons worth easily over 40 autoxs and have a number of 1st place finishes.

I think the xA's brakes will be fine on the autox.
On the race track, I'm sure I will fade the crap out of them. There's not much cooling in drum brakes. Typically in my Z I run Motul 600 brake fluid because the stock fluid boils. I run race grade pads with 800F+ temp ranges minimum like Porterfield R4 or Hawk Blues. The xA won't need this much high temp parts as I won't be needing to stop from the same level of speeds, plus it's much lighter, but I'm sure I'll boil the fluid and fade the rear at minimum. I'd be suprised if I didn't fade the fronts too actually. I'm usually pretty hard on my brakes and trail brake very deep into turns.
I also don't want to beat on the brakes too much because it's my fiances baby. My baby is the Z. That's fine also because I'm usually so busy with logistics, organizing, and instructing at the event that I usually don't have time to hit the track. I've gotten enought track time over the years so it doesn't bother me to miss some.
Regarding the xA RS's understeer/oversteer, I find it very difficult to go the speeds nessisary to really push the handling of the car with it's stability control. I get too nervous on the streets to push it safely. Too many thing unpredictable things can happen and your not only taking your own life in your hands.

CONGRATS on your autocross experience. I too have an autocross this weekend in Nashville,TN and can't wait to put the BOX through it's paces. Should be great fun. Hitting cones BAD :twisted:
