On the stock airbox, what is the thing circled in red below?

What does it do. My guess is it either helps to muffle engine noise, or it increases responsiveness.

If it the former, removing it should increase power. If it is the later, than it will hurt power.

So.... if I removed it and covered the hole, should i see power gains or loss?





P.S. I know any gains or loss would be pretty minimal but seeing as i have zero money, any free mod to increase performance is a mod for me

 

that just recirculates the air. There isnt anything inside it too. yeah u can take it off and put a rubber cap on it. little to nothing of a difference.

It's a resonator used to lower noise from the intake. You can plug it with a drain plug from a sink, but there is no difference to be noticed

 

I have done the Dr. Isotope's mod and all I have noticed is that it whistles purdy.
Some dork in the BB parking lot thought I was actually turboed.
