I'm curious how scion is doing with the xD because I've only seen one...maybe 2 of them on the road and that was around a scion/toyota dealership, so someone may have been test driving it, instead of actually owning it. Anyone have any numbers? Any thoughts?

I don't know that I much care how popular this car gets. Sure, I hope Toyota doesn't drop the car due to lack of sales- that might make service more difficult in the future- but otherwise I rather like driving an unusual car.

I've seen only one other on the road in our town. And a couple of xB2s.

if thats the case, it should be a collectors car come 30 years from now

I've seen a handful on the road so far. Same with the new xB's.

I've seen a few. I know a couple people that have one.

xD sales for September were approximately 2703, and in August approximately 2854 were sold. These numbers were taken from Toyota's news page. Exact numbers were not revealed, and the numbers above were deduced by subtracting the xB and tC numbers from the total Scion sales for each month. Those total sales numbers could include the last xA's, but I doubt there were very many, if any sold in August or September.

I'd certainly say they were selling well...at least in northeastern Ohio. As soon as a dealer gets one in stock, it's gone. I had to wait over a month for mine. And it will be a while before you start seeing them on the road as they are very rare right now. I've only seen two xD's other than mine, and they were both at the dealer. For right now, it's pretty cool having a car almost no one else has.

I've seen a few on the road, a red, a white and a blue, No really. red white and blue.

I've seen around 4 on the road around me. Wish I didn't because I'd like to be "that" car haha and be able to get stuff for it from meets lol. Ah how I would like money to mod my baby...

You should still get stuff at shows, i haven't seen (m)any at shows.

I see new xBs all the time now but the xDs I've seen on the road could be counted on one hand.

MTD for the xD as of 10/30/2007 is 1,836 units

i'm not that interested in seeing many on the road either
i had a tC and it seemed like everyone and their mother had one of those... it got old after a while.

I've seen two on the road. It's what made me seriously look at one in person. The car looks very different to my eyes in person than in photos.

Although my dealer swears xDs are selling very well, I have not seen any in the wild (in SE Florida). I see a lot more Mazda3s HBs, and a few Fits, flitting around, but no xDs. Having a unique car is good, except when trying to parts and repairs done well and within a budget.

Please keep in mind the downside of a small sales base. For those in the mod community, without a solid market base the turbo's, S/C's, cat-backs, suspension and interior mods will be slow in coming. Then again, if you can afford to or have the skilkl set needed to go the custom route, you will have a truly unique vehicle. I've been waiting to see if something comes out for the 1.8L, it seems to have nice potential but alas, nothing yet.

Also, informal numbers may be gotten from ScionLife registrations of xD's, has anyone done a correlation on xB and tC sales and SL members?

I see new xBs all the time now but the xDs I've seen on the road could be counted on one hand.+1 I've seen dozens of xB2s and less than 10 xDs.

I've seen two xDs on the road here in Portland. I saw one last weekend in San Francisco. Im glad the car I own isn't on every street you turn on.

the dealership I work at can't keep them on the lot. I bought mine here last week, and we haven't got another one in yet. They've never lasted more than a couple of days, though.

I haven't seen another one yet here in the most densely populated parts of New Jersey. if the xD fades into obscurity, it'll sure be hard to sell it off a few years from now.

I haven't seen many around Dallas, which I am happy about. And given I plan to drive it for at least 7-8 years I am not too concerned about the resale.

Exactly... I love having a car hardly anyone has.

I have seen one or two in Houston and a few dozen 2nd gen xB's in about the same time period.

I'm totally surprised that some of you have seen so many! I've had mine for two months...& other than the ones at the dealership, I haven't seen another here in the Phoenix valley.

I think that is a good thing. I like the fact that I will be driving a car that not everyone else is driving.

i still havent even seen one in person.. guess they aren't very popular around here.. i see tons of xB's and tC's, and a few xA's..

hell theres about 7 xB's in my neighborhood.. but no xD's

jatkins44
11-07-2007, 10:46 PM
i think people don't really know about them yet. since scion doesn't make commercials for individual cars.

i promise- i wasn't complaining when i said that i haven't seen another. i definitely don't want the xD to turn into the honda civic of scion!

i just started seeing xb1s around here. but then again, the poverty rating here is 30%, lol... the sad part, when the Titans first came out, they were instantly all over the place. new, cheap, economy cars with great gas mileage show up, yet the fools around here are still pimping out their rusted cadillacs with a cheap extra coat of paint, suspension lifts, and logos running across their cars that say "24 INCHES."

...no im not kidding. people spend thousands of dollars to lift their cadillacs to fit huge, ugly rims... forget the fact that the exhaust is pouring out black smoke, right?

:: steps off soap box :: anyway, there WOULD be another xD around here... if i could afford the insurance O_o (F.U., college)

that's funny, but so true! it's always the junker cars that most guys our age are always trying to beef up. i don't get it. they just end up looking stupid. downtown phoenix is the same way. CADILLACS ARE NOT COOL!!!!!!!!! oh, well. it's their time & money. LOL

anyways, have you checked out what your insurance would be with the xD? i had a 91 camaro and took it off and put the xD on. it actually went down a couple dollars. i know i could get it even lower, if i took the time to shop around.

i heard that the trade in is pretty decent for people going from an xA to the xD.....but that's just rumor..so it might/ might not be worth checking out.

oh no, im keeping my xa ;-). it's a shared car (not married yet, but might as well be). right now im paying 40 dollars on my 300zx, and we have help with the xas insurance (for some reason, it's at 330 dollars!!! my mom pays 89 for her full coverage on her xa. i think it's the company/our age..)

My agent quoted "somewhere around the xAs," which is somewhere around 230 for me. but I informed about the added airbags, remote door locks, stability control, etc, and they said to check back later (apparently, these are big monthly savers @ Farmers).

Zillon

That's fairly high for an xA.

I pay 230/mo with one ticket on my record that comes off in 3 weeks.

Texas has pretty high insurance for the under 25 crowd. I moved down here when I was 22 it was painful for 3 years compared to what I paid in Minnesota.

petalfuzz

The insurance we're paying for the xD is a tad more than $50/mo for full coverage. NW Ohio, one accident, one ticket. (We're turning 25 in Dec.)

11-08-2007, 04:35 PM
Jesus!!! my mom hasnt had a single wreck or ticket, and even with our family discounts and 10+ year discounts she's still paying 80-something...

PakanaHerruus
11-11-2007, 04:08 PM
230 is what i pay, but its not per month.. i have it set up to pay once every 3 months.. im sure his is similar he just forget to put that.. 230 seems a little high, even ifr you had a fast car.. unless you have an ungodly horrible driving record

When I was under 25 in Texas I was charged like $190 a month and that was with no accidents or tickets. After I turned 25 it dropped a lot. They just charge crazy amounts here in Dallas. Granted that was 300/100/100 with a reasonable deductible on collision.

Does your 300zx have a turbo?

I don't know about offroad's Z, but I owned a '90 Z TT. I bought it new, sold it while it was still in concours condition and 18K miles in 2002. A short time later, the new owner took it over a cliff, totally demolishing the car and almost killing himself.......:-(

Up here in VT the only xD I've seen is in my own driveway. :D Not that I'm complaining, I like having a unique car. It looks the same as when I bought it (Given, that was only a few days ago) and I'm still getting stares. xB's I see around, but not too often, one everyday at work, and maybe a random xB once or twice a week. Overall, Scions just aren't very popular up here.

But again, not complaining.

offroadinfrontier

no turbo here. id like one, but id rather throw that money in a turbo for my xa or xd (if a kit came out). 21 years is a long time for a car, no telling what might break. Sorry to hear about your Z32, that pains me... its such a shame to waste a beautiful car..

I saw another xD yesterday!! of course, it was on an IH, so it probably wasn't from around here.. but there's another one on the list!

MasterFramer

asked about the turbo because it can add a lot to the insurance of the car

Yeah, they definately do. Don't tell my insurance agent, but I drive my N/A harder than some people drive their turbos ;-)
