View Full Version : (((RATTLING PROBS!!)))
daverf230 01-03-2004, 04:16 AM I just wanna kno how many people have an engine that shakes A LOT? Its not nesessarily an idle prob (but can be) but the shaking is somewhere around 800 RPM. Im asking because i think it was either toyota or geo who had a really messed up block that rattled a lot and had a recall on it just to put on better motor mounts!! This problem was because these blocks were made by machines that also wear in time so the blocks were off in specs. Im wondering if Scion is having the same prob.
showpaojoe 01-03-2004, 04:54 AM I have this problem. It happens when I come to a stop or slowly make a turn. I thought it was the intake rattling against something but I don't think so. I can't fugure it out.
Besk_one 01-03-2004, 05:07 AM our cars just idle loud i think, at least on my car at idle the vavles make a TON of noise, not so much a rattle, but alot of valve noise for sure
showpaojoe 01-03-2004, 05:09 AM then somebodys gotta ride wid me around the block cuz mine is like a rattle, something smacking something else
arinvolvo 01-03-2004, 07:50 AM well jeez joe....you think you may have broken an engine mount while dirt ramping?
I used to break engine mounts in my volvo all the time when i rally'd the hell out of it.
showpaojoe 01-03-2004, 08:16 PM damn man, i hope your just joking cuz that would suck ___. I also never slow down on speed bumps so that could do it too. I'll probably get jon or brian to see if they have the same noise or idle loudly thingie that he said. i probably have the dirtiest xB out here. I never wash it and the wheel wells are fukn muddy as a mother
izzles 01-03-2004, 08:28 PM I hear things but pay no minds attention to it....now I am concerned....
arinvolvo 01-04-2004, 12:48 AM joe, just have someone check the motor mounts.
it aint hard to do, and they are usually pretty cheap to replace.
scionracerxb 01-04-2004, 01:10 AM mine runs as smoooth as a babys butt,....it also is alot smoother and quieter now that i put the fully synthetic motor oil in it  ....but definately no shakin or rattling goin on in my ride
c_dog 01-04-2004, 02:01 AM I just bought my xB about two weeks ago. I have an automatic and I have the same characteristic. I don't think it's an indication of a problem. My GF's sister had an Echo (1999-2001??) which I have drove before and it had the same characteristics, when I drove it at 40k miles. It may just be normal.
UrbanDrum 01-04-2004, 03:23 AM ,....it also is alot smoother and quieter now that i put the fully synthetic motor oil in it
Is there a better brand? What did you use? 5w40?
daverf230 01-04-2004, 03:54 AM ok i guess its just joe's prob BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH
gstuiep 01-15-2004, 04:51 AM dont forget you guys all have warranties :D Take it to the dealer and have a tech sit in the car with you and make the noise...they can tell you if it is "normal" or not. Thats the way things go in Maryland anyway
showpaojoe 01-15-2004, 05:30 AM everyone tells me to but i'm just lazy. still have to go for my oil change but i keep putting it off. and theres still a rattle and now it does it when i reverse just a little and break. it'll rattle for a few seconds
Crispyxb 08-09-2006, 07:46 PM If you have a xB and it rattles in reverse or when you are stoped on a slant, It is you stock air box. A cold air intake or ram air will fix it. Atleast it should. I can hold my air box and put it in reverse and the vibrating automatically stops.
