Default 3rd Brake Light. Help, just failed my Inspection..

I just failed my inspection because the guy thinks the entire 3rd brake light should light up.
Correct me if I am wrong but it's really only the middle part that lights up isn't it?

And if I am wrong how do i go about replacing the lights?

what inspection is it?

stock tbl lights up only in the middle.

they come like that from the factory stock. I think its one of the corners cut to save money on production costs IMO really (my theory, not sure why they really did that),

I do think its ridiculous however the stock tbl looks like the whole thing should light up, but than only the middle 5 inches light up when you brake.

Well I'm assuming that you didn't take it to the dealer for inspection because they would know that. Did you tell the guy he is a moron and that's how it comes from the factory?

thats a bunch of garbage.
Your right, only the middle lights up.
I would have asked him to show me the law that says the third brake light needs to be some minimum length.

thinking that his brake lights were out. sigh...live and learn. yeah, smack that stupid inspector guy, and tell him it is the way they are made.

same here, When I first bought the car I thought the whole thing lit up, until I saw another tC's brake light and thought, why doesn't it light up all the way? and thought it looked bad.

So I checked my brake light and sure enough same thing.
Took that crap out and put in a real fully lit tbl and I'm a happy camper.

I think a lot of tC owners out there have yet to realize that their tbl lights up only partially.

well, I brought the car back and the guy still wont pass it. he told me i need to call the registry and get a letter from them. so i called my dealership and spoke with my salesman... tomorrow i have to go into the dealership and they will write a letter for me.
i shouldn't have to do all of this for a car that can pass inspection.

^^I think there may be some sort of law for that. If you take it somewhere, and they won't pass you for some reason, you can't go elsewhere. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that before. Next time just take it to the dealer, you may be saving money, but is it really worth all this hassle?!

Have you ever seen the Lexus IS250's TBL? It looks IDENTICAL to the stock tC TBL. (LED and length-wise.) I'm sure Toyota uses that TBL for a lot of their cars.

When you take it back and show him the letter Id be sure to give him hell for making it so hard for you to get your car inspected. Speak to his manager and make a scene. Maybe you can get the inspection free. Or you could skip all the hassle and find a shady place that doesnt even look at your car and just hands out the inspection stickers.

Default 3rd brake light is always on

My 2008 Scion tC 3rd brake light when you turn the lights on it’s on and stays on all the time! I failed the inspection for this. My taillights works fine with the brake! Any idea what would it be or how I fix it ?

3rd brake light should be on exact same circuit as brake-lights.

If it's on separately, there's short in wiring somewhere. Just have to trace all wiring from 3rd brake light to brake-pedal.
