Minsk99 10-28-2004, 08:42 PM Don't hold out on us man! I've been hoping for someone to come out with a rear lower frame brace. How was installation? Did you need to weld or drill into the frame?
Joehnn 10-28-2004, 08:54 PM Looks simple and sweet!!

Ok it is all bolt on, but you have to measure 50 or more times before you drill 4 holes and I used a dremel and a nut rivet gun. Possibly in the future it will be 100% bolt on...
I will be test driving it for about 1K and get it powder coated candy purple to match the rest of my suspension...
who knows maybe if this thread blows up the person(s) might get this out into production  8)
Milhamscion 10-28-2004, 09:04 PM Cool~ Keep us posted on the handling gains!!
I promised not to say where this came from, but thought I would give ya all a little something to look at... 8) :D

Looks like the jig is up Minsk99 PM me some interesting info and come to find out some good friends are hording the goods
THIS IS NOT 100% bolt on and if not properly installed could cause severe damage!!!
If you want the kit PM me for the contact and I can hook you up but I can not stress enough that if not properly done it will not be safe.
You will be accountable if not used for the specific application it was intended for.
squirrel 10-29-2004, 05:54 AM Dave, Dave, Dave, it needs to be powdercoated blue not purple, remember? I have blue accents, not purple!
(PM me an email addy, I got some pics for you to see! )

NJthunder5spd 10-30-2004, 05:39 AM where do those bars going towards the back actually go??? is there another brace somewhere else?
how bout some more pics!
Toy_xbox 10-30-2004, 08:56 AM It ties into the rear axle housing connecting the rear section to the frame rails, like a front frame brace ties the front cradle to the frame...
I will update with more pics after I get the parts back from being powder coated candy purple 8)
L8r,
hotbox05 10-30-2004, 09:51 PM oh man. i soo need that . lol
Toy_xbox 11-01-2004, 05:32 PM For anyone who wants to get one of these brace kits and has the mechanical ability to install it you can get them for a steal at Cabe Toyota in Long Beach, CA ask for Roger and tell him you seen this thread...

Minsk99 11-09-2004, 12:15 AM Looks great. Did you end up using any spot welds for final installation?
Toy_xbox 11-09-2004, 01:27 AM Got lucky and no welding needed... I am working on getting a piece fabricated for the center mount on the crossbrace to use the original mounting locations as well as the new ones I drilled and used rivet-nuts  just for extra safety...
Overall everything worked out well and now all the suspension mods flow better and the candy purple is visible throughout for shows :D :D :D
During the testing I took a on ramp to the 405 fwy that almost had a 360 and floored it passing everyone and it handle exceptional as I was going into 4th gear entering the fwy zoom-zoom bye bye    but then again I have every suspension piece I could add except for a roll cage but that's overkill
tinybigrig 11-09-2004, 02:07 AM dave im down for one.....are they pricey?!?!

Call Roger at Cabe Toyota he will hook ya up tell em you seen this thread... 8)
dgHotLava 11-14-2004, 03:46 PM did you take any measurements for the holes you drilled?
did you have to remove the springs when doing this??
thanks...
Toy_xbox 11-15-2004, 03:07 PM You do not have to remove anything to install this... you should support the rear of the box to make it easier to remove the bolt that holds the rear axle to the body. I did one side at a time and I mounted the spacer to the emergency brake line first to keep it out of the way.
I didn't measure as far as using a tape each car could be slightly different in production so no set dimension is used. Basically I used a redneck measuring device "string" and some double sided tape to mark the spot where the front dowel contacts the frame.
Mounted it and swung the arm up and the double sided tape stays on the frame that shows where the dowel will be located when installed.
Very important you have to drill the hole about halfway towards the rear of the marked hole so that when the arm is installed and pushed forward it locks in like the directions show... I checked and rechecked about fifty times before I drilled the hole  I used a dremel to slightly enlarge the slot on the dowel to make it easier to install...
Oh yeah use a rubber hammer to move the arms forward, these are JDM and they don't powder coat in Japan.
Hope this helps...
dgHotLava 11-15-2004, 03:40 PM yes it does!
i got the box up on stands and was going to put on the side-arm piece, swing it into place to get the 'drill here' spot.
but i thought the spring would push the axle beam making it hard to put back.
oh, one more thing, great find!!!
Jays05EchoHB 11-16-2004, 02:04 PM Where can a Canuck like me get this? Will it work with Echo? :D

Technically it was made for the Vitz and should bolt right into your echo with no modifications...

JDM_Junkyard 03-13-2005, 06:47 PM TRD makes this, and Btune.net sells them. It fits perfectly on Xa's and also Echo from what I see. I guess it just needs drilling for the xb. Cool.
heme11 03-13-2005, 11:12 PM does this brace essentially do the same thing as the gtspec brace or do they do entirely differnt things? http://www.partshippers.com/images/gtspec_scion_braces.jpg?zenid=f839f7bf59dc455c4df1c02a576433be
does the TRD brace eliminate the need for a rear swaybar?
i apologize in advance if my questions are completly ridiculous.

they are different things...and do different things...
no, you still need the sway-bar...
xAlex 03-16-2005, 11:19 PM oh man... i need all these parts!!
xAlex 04-10-2005, 12:17 AM so i'm in the process of installin this bad boy (TRD underbrace) and is it just me... or did they not supply me with enough nuts/washers for this? or am i missing something?

xAlex 08-09-2005, 11:58 AM its not on the website (i think) just pm the guy who sells 'em, you'll send him a paypal and he'll send you the brace.
mikochu 08-09-2005, 08:48 PM I believe WRAITH is selling BTune's last batch...
http://www.echodrivers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7412
magicmanjk808 08-10-2005, 12:04 AM dang, i wish i wasn't so worried about the install.
mikochu 08-10-2005, 02:05 AM Yeah, they make a bB brace (with a different part number) too. xA owners are lucky...installation of the Vitz brace (the one Wraith is selling) is flawless.
xAlex 08-10-2005, 02:17 AM xA owners are lucky... That is correct :D
well i now know who to contact for help for the install now well at least for the questioning part at least :D

KangaRod 08-18-2005, 07:19 AM I just slapped my Tanabe braces in. looks and works fantastic:
http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=78642
why did they make the slots in the tabs so narrow???
i know a few used a dremmel i don't quite want to say how i did it... but i did widein the gap to make it fit
what did you do to make it fit???
Wraith 08-21-2005, 01:58 AM I believe WRAITH is selling BTune's last batch...
http://www.echodrivers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7412
Actually; B-Tune got it from my business partner... B-Tune is my Carbon Fiber guy... I had 15 braces that I sold to echo folks... I have 9Left that came from my business partner... Its a steal because he needs the money to pay for some bills.. Its cheaper if you want to pick it up...
http://www.echodrivers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7412
just a little far fetched idea with the trd lower frame brace installed could you install a real rear sway bar and not a rear beam stiffener???
KangaRod 08-24-2005, 01:40 AM the rear frame brace wont get in the way of either of those types of anti roll bars
Grimgrak 09-01-2005, 03:51 PM Has anyone made a direct bolt on kit for the xB yet?
dgHotLava 09-01-2005, 03:54 PM Has anyone made a direct bolt on kit for the xB yet?
not yet...
GT spec is working on one for us xB'ers
magicmanjk808 09-01-2005, 08:42 PM doesn't trd have one. maybe i'm reading this wrong. part no. 51503-NP300?
http://www.trdparts.jp/english/parts_brace.html
dgHotLava 09-01-2005, 08:46 PM it does list for the bB.
i think its the same number as the one i have.
it did not fit right out of the box...
might have been for the first gen bB???
Grimgrak 09-02-2005, 12:41 AM Isn't rs1.0 a first gen bb?
dgHotLava 09-02-2005, 01:43 AM nope...
all xB's are second gen...
you can tell by the rear hatch...if the plate is in the bumper its a first gen...
in the door its a second gen...
Grimgrak 09-02-2005, 04:32 AM Weird i've never seen a xb with a liscence plate on the rear bumper before..
magicmanjk808 09-02-2005, 06:59 AM it does list for the bB.
i think its the same number as the one i have.
it did not fit right out of the box...
might have been for the first gen bB???
did you have to do the same drilling as others have with the echo brace? if not, what did you have to do to make it fit?
I'll let D answer that specifically...but some of the mounting areas need to be extended and or redrilled because mounting locations are different for securing the pieces.
dgHotLava 09-02-2005, 03:46 PM yes, it is the same thing as the echo.
hotbox05 09-11-2005, 11:08 PM can anyone actually show exactly what and where needs to be drilled and what/ where needs to be widened.
pdrizzle 12-30-2005, 12:52 AM This thread SCREAMS for a fully illustrated how-to. I have had this brace for almost a year and just need a little more information to muster up the jewels to install it.
hotbox05 12-30-2005, 10:07 AM yah i've got it but i'd feel sooo much better if someone who has it installed was to uninstall it and give up the measurements for the holes to be drilled.
hotbox05 01-31-2006, 07:58 AM someone please go take measurements for the fellow xber's on site. thanx
dgHotLava 01-31-2006, 10:34 AM it is easy to do with out the measurements...
just fit the peice and drill where it lines up. (move the hole back, half the diameter so it locks tha tab properly.)
hotbox05 01-31-2006, 10:40 AM it'd b about 10 times easier and less stressful if someone just measured. lol cause without me having a life or the ability to get my car at least 2 feet off teh ground i cant exactly be takiong my time down there.
dgHotLava 01-31-2006, 12:54 PM it is actually easier (and faster) to do it like i suggested.
hotbox05 02-01-2006, 12:51 AM wel;l I tried like three times and without having my car on a lift i can't do it.
proctorsilex 02-03-2006, 04:01 AM How do you like the handling of the TRD brace?
Do you notice the difference?
Thanks
dgHotLava 02-03-2006, 10:48 AM not much if any diff in handling.
this just bridges a gap in the sub framing of the chasis (yes, i know it is unibody. )
milesm4 03-13-2006, 05:39 PM I just got mine last week and put it on over the weekend, I feel a difference when going around corners over 40mph. Also the install was really easy, just loosely bolt it up mark with a sharpie where the holes need to go, unbolt the horizontal piece, drill and then re-attach.
dgHotLava 03-13-2006, 06:05 PM did you drill the holes half way back?
so that the 'button' piece will lock onto it?
milesm4 03-13-2006, 07:25 PM Yes I tried to do it without that but when I took it out for a test drive when I went over some railroad tracks it sounded like I had a trunk load of scrap metal it freaked me out a little bit.
dgHotLava 03-13-2006, 07:35 PM you have to do it...thats how it works
milesm4 03-13-2006, 07:38 PM yeah it didn't look right until I drilled those holes, it took awhile I just used a unibit one level at a time til it fit.
dgHotLava 03-13-2006, 07:51 PM thats how i did it,
then you tap it forward so it locks onto the frame...bolt it up tight...drive like a mad man.
empireautomotivellc 03-14-2006, 01:08 AM All sounds good.
OrAnGeBoX 04-28-2006, 03:07 PM Where do I get this piece?
How much does it cost?
mikochu 04-28-2006, 09:19 PM Hey Dave,
I checked my brace recently...and dang, it's rusting a lot...
proctorsilex 04-28-2006, 09:19 PM i ordered one from gordon race engineering for like $100 something? i really can't remember. it took a while for their supplier to send it to them. now they're waiting on a greddy strut brace before sending it to me ;_;
charles _A_T_ gordonraceengineering.com
or turbocustomz on here.
there's also some dealer selling them on fleabay.
don't quote me on the price cause there ain't much to quote ;)

Is this the same type of brace?
proctorsilex 04-29-2006, 08:10 PM that looks like a front end brace. ask the seller.
i think that the rear braces are harder to find for some reason. maybe they make less of a difference?
trd's is the only rear offering that i know of, well, except for those dinky single bar replacements. partshippers.com has one of those and a front.
dgHotLava 04-30-2006, 05:56 PM Hey Dave,
I checked my brace recently...and dang, it's rusting a lot...
yeah, mine is rusted up too.
they put the same thin cheap paint on it as they do our cars...lol
anyone doing this should have their unit powder coated before install...will save you the disapointment later.
dgHotLava 04-30-2006, 06:00 PM Where do I get this piece?
How much does it cost?
read the whole thraed...it is in there somewhere...
i think it was carson toyota who was getting them...had to call them, it will not be on the website.

Is this the same type of brace?
no.
those are type I and type II braces. they work on the front suspension.
the type I is useless....
the Type II replace the stock sub connectors (two short round bars) with a much better designed unit (one frame piece).
JSosa 04-30-2006, 07:09 PM mine is, as well, rusting. It kind of sucks to see the brace like that, but its a little to late now.
Toy_xbox 05-08-2006, 10:24 PM Hey Dave,

Yep thats what I did I had it powder coated "candy purple" and no rust showin on mine.... :D
