Default tC Brake issues...Weird noise at low speeds?

Have 28K on my tC. Lately as it has been getting colder out (up here in Wisconsin) i have been noticing that when braking at a slow speed or turning to the right at low speeds, a weird sound comes from what I believe is the front drivers side wheel/rotor. its almost like a scraping sound. like when the wheel rotates it is scraping against something.
This is with my stock rims on it. It doesn't do this when I brake from a higher speed, such as when going on a road at like 60. But if i slow from doing like 30, I hear this noise. I also was wondering if a rotor may have been warped because i just got my new Toyo Proxies put on and they may have over tightened the wheel. Thanks for your help!

Warping would be indicated by a wobble in the steering wheel whenever you applied the brake. Im going to guess your brake pads are in good conditions, so the next idea is that you might have a stuck caliper.

you would get a pulsating pedal if your rotors were warped. It sounds like you need new brakes because you are at the right amount of miles. Usually around 30k is when they start to wear. the noise is prolly coming from the indicator on the pads to tell you you need new brakes. If your pads are fine then check the baking plate. it may be bent in a lil bit and it hitting your rotor. you would have to be a giant to over tighten your lugs unless you hold an impact gun on them for a few seconds.

I am just over 10k on my 07 tC and I noticed yesterday it started to make that grinding noise when I drive it after it sits for a day. It's been really wet outside lately and about 40 degrees.
I'm sure there is plenty of pad and there isn't actual metal to metal happening. It just sounds like it and after a few stops it goes away.

My first instinct is to change the brake pads to a different composite.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Also, does anyone know what kind of pads come stock on the tC's?

i have the same issue. It seems to be partial braking during slowing to a stop or turning slowly, also from front/driver side wheel area.

i was told by a dealer that my rotors are warped.

if you feel a pulsing in the steering wheel and/or brake pedal at 50mph+ then your rotors are warped. I know that mine are not warped. I think it's just a matter of bad fitting brake parts or more than likely crap brake pads.

Check your pad wear indicators, and backing plate! Also someone mentioned about how the brakes make noise after the car sits and there is moisture in the air! This is due to slight rust that forms on your bare metal rotors just after a short time of being exposed to wet weather! A few times of applying the brakes usually clears the rust off and it's fine! Perfectly normal!

I agree... however. haha. My last car had similar issues and I ended up changing the rotors out for OE sized brembos and performance pads and that cleared up ANY problems. I still have to go with the crappy pads theory.

that grinding noise that you hear is the layer of rust that builds up on your rotors after it sits for a while especially when its wet out thats why is goes away after a few stop due to the pads scraping that rust of. I get that all the time. If you were to spray your rotors with water you would see a little bit of rust build up.

Cwatz... since you work for Scion can you find out what composite type the factory brake pads are for the tCs?

I'm just curious.

Yea I'm curious too! Everyone says the stock pads and rotors are pretty good quality for what they are! I got 32k on mine, and I'm still about 40-45% life left on the pads!

my pads are brand new. the rotors have been rusted a bit for a long time...this squeeking is new. and it doesn't go away after using the brakes.

yeah, scion dealerships will tell u that its a TSB for rust on the rotors...i happen to think that is a BS excuse.

no, aftermarket wagner ceramic pads... its the 2nd time i've used them though...did not have this issue the first time. i personally think the rotors have seen their day, but a shop said they were fine. don't know why... they look bad.

what does the surface of the rotors look like? do they look shiny? if so they can be turned and they'll be like new.... if they aren't warped and are thick enough.
