Default LED Change in stock head unit

Hola,
Am I nutz for trying to change the color in the head unit? Let me know if anyone's tried opening that thing up yet to take a look, or of any sucess stories.
I've changed all the others sucessfully, but don't want to spend the dough on the 6-disk.

There's an absurd number of tiny yellow surface mount LEDs in there.

I'd be willing to take the time to color them, but not resolder. Even if the color was a little dull because of the yellow. I'm going red so it's not that bad.
Have you ever taken the face off that thing?

You mean like this?

I don't know about the factory single CD as I traded mine in for a OEM navi, but I'd imagine it's less than what I had to go through. If you're interested in changing them, PM me, I should be able to do them. BTW here's the link for a little more information about what you might expect.

Thanks and sorry for the late reply.
I went and did this yesterday and it wasn't that bad. There were 30 led's which I just hit with a sharpie, but the main display lights were the same as the AC controls to my delight. I just pulled off the yellow led condoms and made my own red ones out of a larger set that I got at PepBoys. The button lights are a bit dull but the main display looks awesome.
The whole project (removal - remounting) only took me about 45min and I'm just one of those who flies blind on these things.
So now all my interior lights are red and it looks great. I might switch the guage back to white but we'll see how long the sharpie on there lasts first.
My digi-cam is on the fritz, but I'll try and get some pictures up at some point.
I really want that navigation system though. I'm driving from Boston to Miami in two weeks, so after that I'm going to be convinced I'm sure. What did that run you?
Thanks again.

Retail is about $1700 from OEMValue.com but I got it for around $1375 because I traded in my stock HU and also the guy gave me a very good discount. If you want it mostly plug and play, you'll need the package with the JBL amp. However, I believe that you can hook up just the headunit to any amp with a line level converter and a lot of wire splicing.

Cool. Thanks again. That might be a little rich for my blood though. A sunroof would have to come before that.
