The TRD is known for being quiet at idle and at high speeds.

It's not "buzzy". Has a deeper sounding note.

A good choice I think.

It cost's way too much for what it is.You should hook up with Stylis and get his axil back. You won't be sorry.

I've got a TRD exhaust. Its my favorite exhaust for an xB. Its slightly louder than stock. It has a more aggressive note, and is nice and deep. Not buzzy. When the engine is under load, like when climbing hills or when at WOT, it is louder than stock in the cabin. Not terribly loud, but not quiet how a stock exhaust is.

If you're interested in the exhaust note more than power, than the TRD exhaust is fine. If you want to make horsepower by sticking an axle-back exhaust on your car, then you can't be driving an xB. We got guinea pigs pulling our cars underneath the hood. The little suckers are gonna shoot right out your tail pipe with anything bigger.

That's right. If you get a new exhaust, the only thing keeping the hampsters in will be the catalytic converter... poor little things, they keep bouncing around when I stop.

I was looking at the Borla and the Thermal R&D cat-backs because I don't really want an axle-back, but I might just stay stock because:

1) The performance gains are minimal.
2) The cost doesn't justify the result.
3) Anyway you go about it, a "deep" exhaust note on the xB sounds like poo... unless you have some seriously stroked engine with turbo, which sort of defeats the economy of the xB.

On the other hand, a nice muffler looks prettier in that big gaping hole in the bumper. Decisions are tough.

I have it on my car, it does not sound like "poo" as one person seems to think. I was surprised at how nice it sounded for as small as the motor is....

it is a nice system, don't get me wrong. But it is on the quiet side. If you want something that is like that, than yeah go for it.

quiet is better no need no loud exhuast on a weak car :) trd it is

I have the TRD on my 5 speed. Have had it on for last 5 months. Most noise at exactly 3000 RPM and around 6000 RPMs. Loud and Deep enough to get my friends alarms chirping when I rev next to them. I will soon be getting an AEM CAI without the bypass So I will see how it sounds on there. Cal State Legal. Under 98 dB. Will not void warranty. Bolts right on, stock hanger, unbolt the pipe and rebolt this one. As for sounding like poo as my maryland xB counterpart expressed; I does not sound like a honda, but it is not a Mustang. Somewhere in the middle. Best bet for it is Carson Scion (www.newscionparts.com). It was 255 shipped to me in MD. Lowest Price I have found.

I like the way that the TRD exhaust sounded. I would like to see some dyno chart comparisons though. Does anyone have any info on which exhaust has the best power gain?

I was thinking about getting one, not for the performance gain, but to get rid of a drone I notice with the stock xA muffler between 65-75. The drone is gone before and after that range.

I have tried a lot of other mufflers to get rid of the drone. One Dynomax worked on an Echo I previously had, but it was discontinued, and the closest match had the drone just like stock.

So - what's the tone, in the cabin, cruising at various speeds between 65 and 80 mph with the TRD muffler?

And is there a bonus - performance better? Revs easier?

Is the TRD Sport Muffler listed on their site an axle back system? This is what everyone is talking about, right?

Okay okay, I get the point... I heard yours at Scion Exposed and I will admit that the TRD exhaust is MUCH better in terms of noise pollution than some of the other exhaust systems on the market. After I heard the tone of the Magnaflow cat-back, I thought it was just a little too aggressive for the xB's nature. I just don't like loud exhausts.

To clarify myself, there are quite a few cars with 4-cylinders that have a nice deep tone: the Mitsubishi EVO 8, Subaru WRX STI, Dodge SRT-4, Audi TT, Honda S2000. It's just that cars like Honda Civics should not have 5" canisters -- that's a personal opinion. Feel free to disagree. :)
