View Full Version : Any one get big brake kit installed?
jmack 10-30-2004, 02:54 AM I see a few sites offering a Rotora big brake kit. Has anyone installed one? Is it worth the price? The brakes are the first thing I want to improve on the TC. Seems like the best step before adding to power and handling. My brakes just do not let me feel confident/
aarontrini85 10-30-2004, 03:27 AM if you do a big break kit you want to upgrade your master cylinder also or you wont even have the stoping power of the stock breaks (in most cases) but no i havnt

No, the good big brake kits (like the StopTech, TRD and Rotora) are engineered to use the stock master cylinder.
aarontrini85 10-30-2004, 05:31 AM ok i was just going from what i have seen with friends and what proformance shops have told me

Considering this option...
Brembo has a kit also, but Brembo and stop tech weigh a lot.
Anyone offering a lighter Brake kit?
quadoptix 10-30-2004, 07:55 AM what that guy said bout upgrading master cylinder is bull...i have wilwoods on all 4 corners of my box and it stops sick compared to stock =) its all in engineering of the system...in the older gen brake kits, upgrading the master cylinder was necessary, but as time advances and the people who make these kits get it down to a science, they can make it work w/ stock cylinder..but yeah all bbks are worth the moeny..my homegirls got the rotora..its nice =P

thursday 10-30-2004, 08:21 PM does anybody know how much the brakes would cost plus installation? :o
ssx84 10-30-2004, 08:50 PM I would say "install it yourself" BUT alot of people on this forum are not very mechnically inclined (not every one, but alot of you) I would expect to spend between 100-200 on install, the rest depends on the kit.

About $2000, easy, and that's if you got a cheap kit and cheap labor.
Tcguy 10-31-2004, 03:43 AM Tires are the biggest improvement in braking distance. Our stock brakes can lock up fine. If you constantly slam on them, buy slotted discs with a higher temp-rated pad. Upgrade the lines and brake fluid to improve your braking response.
Big brake kits are more designed for cooliong capacity and the ablility to CONSISTANTLY brake the same as before, with minimal fade. For a big brake kit.... real upgrades can be expensive.
For about 1/2 the price, you can switch out the rotors, lines, pads, fluid and replace the tires with something better. I bet that would stop a little better than just a big brake kit. TIRES are key, I can't stress this enough. Ask any auto-xer or road racer. The tires make a huge difference. I usually just bought brembo blanks because I'd chew through so many rotors and they were cheap. With good pads and a high temp fluid, you should be pretty happy.
primescion_mike 11-20-2005, 04:44 PM These brakes are amazing. Had them installed at our dealership!!

We only have them instaled in the front, we are looking for rear Rotora for our tC...anybody have any idea where to find any? If not, brakes that look similar so we can put them on the car....it looks kinda funny having Rotoras in the front and stock on the back!!

Also, their site has a lot of information about brake technology.

Thanks!!!
Concerning the weight issue mentioned before, our rotors are actually lighter than the stock rotors by about a 1/2 pound. It doesnt seem like much but the rotors much larger and thicker than stock which allows for much better heat capacity. We can accomplish this by having a 2 peice design featuring fully floating rotors with a billet aluminum hat.
The rotora kit does look nicer than stock, but it has a 1 peice rotor which is only 20mm larger than stock and is a 1 peice design. That means you are getting a heavier rotor than stock with a marginal difference in heat capacity.
I have been documenting my own StopTech BBK install in my own thread here: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=93275
kungpaosamuraiii 11-21-2005, 05:38 AM No problem!!!
If I do that like 50 times can I have a small percentage off the cost? :D :D :D :D
The_Instigator 11-21-2005, 06:06 AM LOL...Define small :P

Typhoon 12-01-2005, 01:58 AM is there a trd bbk for the tc? if trd is goign to release more trd parts for the tc I ve been thinking of upgrading all trd style, dont know why but i trust trd more then any other company
The_Instigator 12-01-2005, 02:42 AM The TRD badged Celica BBK is will fit on a tC since they have the same spindles and hubs. THe piston sizing is also the same so you should not worry about installing it. Our big brake kits for the tC are the same as the ones sold for the Celica, Matrix and Corolla since the toyota cars share so many parts.
If you want the TRD badged kit try here: http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=68&Part_cat=11&parts_id=196
