This will require more re-thinking  MR LUV  BoxOffice 12-14-2007, 10:40 PM Wow, pretty impressive and I'm sure it goes like stink...BUT: Pretty poor execution - look at how fabbed up the firewall and trans tunnel look. (I can only hope those fixes are on a future schedule. Unfortunately, way too many of these kinds of projects seem to "end" once the swap is made and the car is running.) A Ford small block would have made WAY more sense: the distributor's on the front, where it would actually be accessible! He used a Ford 9" rear, so why not, other than the usual ridiculous mantra about Chevys being superior? Ahem...are those still 4-lug wheels I see? You've gotta be kidding me... So yeah, pretty bad-a$$ but "the devil is in the details", guys... So yeah, pretty bad-a$$ but "the devil is in the details", guys... well first off he said it is being torn down right now to get it finished, inside and out, and the firewall and trans hump are you kidding me? lets see you stuff a v8 into a xB and not have to push the firewall back and make a trans tunnel. :come: Maybe he WANTED to use Chevy, maybe he already had it laying around to use instead of going out and buying a new engine. and once you get the distributor set really how many times are you going to need to work on it? Maybe the ignition is electronic and then you really won't be messing with it much. so all I have to say is until YOU go and build one don't talk bad about what other people have done. Very true,From what I saw everything is easy to get at.At least easier than working on the S-10 I had the dist. was a Bit<h to get to on that. Wow, seems like somebody forgot their Prozac today... :lalala: That's quite a heated response for some pretty basic comments on my part! Where did you read all the seething hatred in my words??? Wow, you even gave me the old ":come:" ! You read something there that actually sounded like fighting words to you??? :eyebrow: The things I said were just some observations from somebody who's both "been around the block", and has been there before. Yes, the feat of stuffing a SBC into a Toaster is quite a job, and the guy is to be commended for pulling it off. I'm sure from a younger guy's point of view, it just looks cool, amazing, etc., but having seen dozens of these "hybrids" over the years, I can honestly say that very few of them are ever truly "finished" so that they look as good as they (sometimes) go, or any attempt to finish them up is even made at all. Regardless, if what I said came off as harsh, that was not my intention. My comments about the firewall and trans tunnel were not that they'd been fabbed, but the poor work that was done on them. It doesn't take a close look to figure that out. Is he planning to finish it? I hope so - if he does, great! In the meantime, my comment stands. Its not "talking bad" about it, just another honest observation. As for the Chevy/Ford discussion, if you'd grown up with these engines and their point-fired distributors, you'd know why it's such a big deal! The points require constant replacement and subsequent adjustment of gap and dwell angle, in addition to condenser replacement, especially if you're driving it hard. Even most of the electronic retro-fit kits are prone to regular failures, depending upon who you're talking to. Being able to access the distributor IS a big deal, regardless. My point was that some folks are so set on their personal feelings about Chevy being better than Ford, that they refuse to use something (Ford) that actually would have worked better in their application. I noticed you didn't mention the ridiculous use of 4-lug wheels on a car with that kind of horsepower - what's the matter, too moronic an idea even for someone standing up for the car? Bottom line is the guy's got an incredible project there that he deserves a great deal of credit for. I sincerely hope the guy finishes the car. Can we at least agree on that? :P vettereddie 12-18-2007, 08:53 PM Not sure about the firewall, but if you read through the club xb post he does state the interior was removed only for the fab, he will be re-doing the carpet to finish off the cabin. I'm guessing he'll also redo the firewall plugs, but I'd certainly want to make sure it runs first before going through the trouble of doing all the finish work. I'm just supercharged and my engine bay looks worse  I'd love to find a better way to pretty up wiring besided convoluted tubing without doing a full rewire. ryuji16 12-18-2007, 09:31 PM i feel sissy-fied. |
