Has anyone imported a scion into canada here? Help me plz!
Hi, fellows
I am currently living in Vancouver, BC Canada, and i'm looking into buying a pre-owned xB either from washinton or oregon state.
I've ready the Topic "Importing Scions into Canada", and i have an idea what i need to go through and what documents i need to process it.
However, most topics were on buying a new scion from a dealership. In my case, i'm buying a pre-owned scion either private or from non-scion dealership.
So, if anyone in this forun has imported a pre-owned scion into Canada, i'd like to know how you've managed to do all the paper work and etc.
What i don't understand is the following.
- i need to submit a Recall Clearance letter and a copy of statement of ownership 3 days prior to the import. Where can i get the recall clearance letter? Can i just ask for one at a certified Scion dealership? After the ownership has been transferred at some DMV branch, I would have to drive the car to the border and submit the documents, but i have to wait three days. I don't wanna leave my vehicle alone in a random area, so seems like waiting at the border for three days is the only option.
- I also need to provide a sales receipt. How can i obtain this from a private seller? just get him to write one?(i wonder if it has to be official)
And i also wonder if i have to pay GST of the vehicle at the DMV branch, because the vehicle is going into Canada.
I'm not confident yet to go through this process myself, so i need as much help as i can get from you guys.
Thanks.

I know we have had people from Canada come to some of our events here in WA that have/ had xBs so I know it can be done...
I would think a bill of sale would suffice as a sales recipt, but you might get in touch w/ one of the dealerships and see, I'll see if I can get you the name of one of the people that has done it...

Here is what you are going to need:
1) Can only purhcase pre-owned
2) Contact Toyota Customer Service for letter of no recall (has to be on toyota letterhead).
3) Copy of Purchase Order, or Bill of Sale
4) Title (Signed by the Seller)
Lastly, all documents (Recall Letter, BOS, Title) must be faxed to the Border where you intend to cross 72 hours prior to your arrival. As for taxes I believe you pay them at time of registration. I would check with your DMV first as to if they will allow you to register the vehicle, before you go through the trouble.
