A co-worker has a Yaris and its a sweet ride BUT the xD's horsepower and all the standard features makes it the tops in its class. I think the xD is based on the Yaris 5 door sold in Europe.

The Pure Pricing for Scion is also a big plus, no negotiation, less hassle.

Go to the dealer and test drive both. Thats the best way to make a decision about a car. I test drove a Mazda 3, Sentra and then the xD. Out of all three I liked the xD more because it seemed to fit me better than the other two but also the $3-$4k price difference in my eyes hehe.

Also I was just messing around with the Yaris liftback S and with the things I'd want, it would be $1k over what I paid for the xD! Have you messed with building your Yaris & xD yet? I would.

Couple of years ago my girlfriend was torn between a Yaris liftback and an xA - xA was hands down more car for the money (features, space).

If you compare xD and Yaris S HB, it's pretty close, but once you add power package, abs, keyless and side airbags you end up with at least $15.5K for the yaris, so again, you get twice the cargo space, twice the doors and 1.3 times the engine for the same money. I love the little Yaris, but not for $15K, sorry.

I test drove a couple Yaris' for my roomate (lol .. he couldn't drive 5sp and its all they ahd)

From what I recall, it was a fairly nice ride. I at the time had a tC, so most of my judgements were cmparing the Yaris to the tC, which isn't fair to either vehicle. It was a fun little car. Even then I prefered the xA to th Yaris, and the added power to the xD pretty much made my mind up. The one thing I remember most of all was flooring the gas, in the 5sp, just to get on the highway.

I actually drove both. Preferred the ride on the Yaris... better vision, felt nimbler. Prefer the look of the Yaris. Cost was the only thing holding me back from buying a 5-door RS in Vancouver.
Interior was cheaper looking in the Yaris (especially the paint on the center vents, and the plastic texture). I am going with the xD because of the options. Options are hard to come by in the Yaris....ABS, SAB no VSC, mirror signals, steering wheel radio controls, factory alloys, etc. Body kit is goofy on the Yaris S HB, and only 3 doors.
Would rather the ist front end on the xD, but oh well.

as long as you have insurance and a license... of course, if you have dealers like i do down here, they might chew you out and stereotype you as a young hotrodding punk.

but then again, thats why i bought both of my new nissans in austin, and the two subcompacts in the family were bought across the street at Toyota/Scion (screw you, waco nissan).

my little sister is 18 and looking at scions. i sent to her to two different toyota dealerships. both treated her with respect because she went in dressed professionally and with a clear concept of what she was looking for. so, there was no questioning when she asked to test drive the xD & xB.

I would never go to a dealership without a clear idea of what I was looking for in a car. You're just wasting your time and the time of the salesman.

^ that's true, unless you tell that to the salesman and he/she leaves you alone until you are ready. my local toyota/scion dealership is really good when it comes to sales - they don't badger you, and if you say you just want to compare two cars on your own ground, they leave you alone. I think that's pretty much the idea behind Scions though, isn't it?

I have owned both cars and I lthink the steering on the yaris feels better and I liked the extra storege in the yaris, but I think the xd is overall a better looking car and the extra few horses dont hurt.

Wish I could have said that about the Mitsubishi dealership I visited back when I had my tC. Took the tC in for the freebe oil change, walked across the street and checked out the new lancers and eclipses. Told the dude I was just there while my car was getting an oil change, told him I was passing time, that I wasn't even looking to buy a car, just wanted to check them out, didn't want a test drive or even so much as to open one of the doors. Even pointed to my car as it pulled out of the garage ... he didnt leave me along until I walked back to get my car ... UGH What killed me most is both lots were owned by the same dealer.

lmao. the toyota/scion dealership is shared with a chrystler dealership in the same huge building/lot. the chrystler *ssh*l*s deal with the used cars, and are, well, *ssh*l*s. Take 5 steps thru the hall and buy a toyota from nice people.

I've driven both. The Yaris is definitely a downgrade from the xD... and the dashboard is kinda weird on the Yaris. I'd definitely go with the xD... I know I did.
