First post first question, I am looking at purchasing an xb and wondering if anyone pulls a trailer with there's, I have a couple jet ski's and would be pulling them allot? Highway and city. Thinking about getting the manual trans.
One more question, is the cold air intake worth getting? :lol:

Welcome! Always good to see someone interested in a Scion. Ok, for your questions: I've looked into getting a hitch for my xb, but after seeing the fabricating I would have to do, I decided against it. I use mt VW GTI to haul our Jet-ski, I would tow MAYBE one jet-ski behind the xB, but if you have 2 I wouldn't haul them more that a couple miles. I would DEFINITELY go with the 5-speed. If you get a auto though, you can always get a tranny cooler and take it VERY easy on when towing. As for the cold air intake, I would not buy this at the dealer, you can get a much better (more HP gain) intake (K&N Typhoon) MUCH MUCH cheaper (Ebay). So where are you from?

I think the max load capacity for the xB is like 1200lbs. So I think only 1 would be safe especially if you carry more then 1 passanger.

It all depends on the weight of your trailer and the jetskis. I dont know what they weight each but Im sure its close to 600lbs with trailer


Cold Air intake I wouldnt get if your looking to gain more hp. Id get it to make your enigne run better. Its not something your going to notice.

I have two jet ski's but would only be pulling one at a time, I am into Freestyle jet ski's, stand up's that is. So the set up with the ski weighs about 300 to 350 lbs trailer and ski, I can lighten this up if needed buy pulling my aluminum trailer. Tongue weight would be about 40 lbs.
I am checking into this very deep because 10 out of twelve months a year this ski lives behind my vehicle.

Has anyone seen any hitches for the xb?

I'm fairly sure the owners manual says no towing.

Would this violate the warranty if you towed things?

Someone on SL makes a hitch kit for ~ $300. I doubt U Haul would have anything since the owners manual forbids towing. The payload capacity of the xB is 980 lbs. That includes passengers. 350 with 40lb tongue wieght seems reasonable though.

buy tha xb, and get a cheap pos to haul tha jetskis,if you ever get in tha box,you are gonna love it!

I was seriously looking into a trailer for carrying mountain bikes, kayaks, etc... but the tow rating for the scions is ZERO... the hitch will void warranty and the lack of power that these cars have will show itself... the short wheel base will make it less stable on the road...

stick or auto won't change the fact that the suspension isn't designed for it... if you do start hauling the skis around you'll have to make sure that they are the only load... meaning driver plus trailer = total load... no friends, no major stereo, etc...

and no matter what do not go plus size on your wheels if you go aftermarket... you will reduce the amount of power you have to the ground and the level of strain on the entire drivetrain will go up...

I went with a roof rack instead, which works for my situation...

My ski and trailer weight is around 350 LBS, I am thinking that that is as much as three men in the vehicle with me my gear and trailer. So I do not believe I should have a problem with weight, still way under the gross, what do you think?

people carry that much with motorcycles.

We have a guy in our club whose uncle fabricated a hidden hitch that slides out from under the rear skirt to mount the ball to. He uses it to haul his motorcycle on a trailer. I don't think he has had any problems. PM him to get more details, his SL name is adamminkley I believe.

I don't have it in writing (so it means nothing), but the dealer assured me that mounting a hitch on my xB would NOT void the warranty. I have pulled my KX250 and my daughters 50cc four-wheeler along with my wife and two kids in the car at least 6000mi. total now. I drive from WV to Indiana every month to go riding and hardly even notice that the small load is back there. I know we talked through PM, but I didn't tell you how many miles that I've pulled my trailer. I can understand everyone having reservations about towing, but just use a little common sense and you'll have no trouble. (speaking from experience)
