I think I actually like the xB styling over the Porte. THe Porte looks like an xB trying too hard. Takes away the funkiness factor and leaves just plain ugly. Plus it looks smaller, and the xB roominess is it's main draw.

What engine is in the Porte? IF they could give us 130HP for not much more $$, maybe I'd feel bettter about the styling tradeoff.

u know wat..i heard similar thing from japanese engineer from toyota. It won't be a full truck...rather a mini truck with passenger cabin. a crossover type...

Scion life cycles will last only 3 years. Which mean in 2007 there will be a new/rediesgned xA and xB.
The xB name is too successful. i doubt they'd rename it.

The xB HAS to be replaced/redesinged because it doesn't offer side air bags

Supposedly there is that new brand called VECTOR (i have no been able to confirm that rumor at all, but vector.com is taken so I doubt it).

This guy is a idiot...Farley had a article where he said they will have a different name and will kill them. Scion isn't about keeping the xB for 2 decades or longer like the Camry or 4Runner. Also you say SL isn't a credible source...even though there has been interviews with Farley. Also this was the first place where I learned about everything. I asked the dealer about the RS xA when I heard about it on here. They said "We haven't heard about it." Also a 300 HP RWD in a Scion name would break everything Scion is about which is affordable cars. Personally, as much as I love my xB, the design is old-hat. I've seen it for almost 4 yrs. now and it's time to move on. In Japan, bB's aren't particularly radical anymore, which was the its main point when it came out, so I can't imagine it going on much longer here either.

from what i understand... the xB is going to be done. there will only be 1 gen box. How can you enhance or create a better box? make it more boxy? its like trying to redesign the pt cruiser or the current beetle. its just not gonna evolve any more.

the next car to come out will also most likely not be a wagon or hatch of any type. why? cuz scion already has 1 lift back and 2 wagons. the most likely choices for scion would be either a truck(hopefully not. ew) or a sedan hopefully similar to the purple one posted in another thread.

its unlikely that the car will be anywhere over 225HP simply because its unlikely to build a car more powerful than that under $25,000. a roadster would be possible but entirely unlikely and a reincarnation of the Supra???? keep dreamin folks.

there is a chance the car could be over 225hp but thats if scion decides to do something similar to the eclipse concept with a regular gas motor up front and an electric motor in the back.

i hope nobody takes this the wrong way but when scion says its aim is toward the youth... i dont think they mean high school kids with minimum wage jobs. i think they mean college students/college grads which would put their demographic in the 19-25 range.

as for myself... im stuck having to wait for a new car anyways so this "dL" real or not, should be interesting to track as well as the 06 eclipse, 06 celica(if it's getting redesigned) and whatever honda decides to do to the civic. Problem with the Porte is it would need some major tool changes. The xB kept as much of the japanese product as they could while changing what they had to to get it into the american market.

The Porte has 1 sliding door, and it's on the pass. side of the car. If they want to keep the same setup they would have to completly re-tool the car to get that door to the other side, or the driver-side is going to end up with a slider here (which wouldn't make much sense with the folding seat and stuff).

It's an interesting design, and I think it would be cool if both sides had the slider (no swinging doors mean no hitting them on other cars), but it wouldn't be as easy as it was with the xB.

Nah. Scion is about getting Gen Y's into Toyota in general. A 300 HP car would be excellent as a halo car and would counter the idea that Scion is Toyota's economy division, not youth division.

I thought more xBs sold than xA, why would they sell the car that started the whole Scion phase? The tC might be the backbone, but if you talk Scion, you have to be talking xB...

i kinda agree with the whole truck thing. the tacoma is no longer a compact truck, yet not a full size truck either. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a truck released as a scion.

Man that would so ROCK! I could haul my bike in that thing. Way cooler than a Tacoma. Why not sell one? Exspecially if there is a market for it? Not everyone wants to drive a carvavan. Scion make a van but make it cool. No one wants Mom's mini van but the VW microbus was awesome! Also make it so morocycles can tie down and boxes can be loaded up for moving. Removeable seets that stand on their own and are weather proof would be cool too for camping trips. Make the floor rubber too so we don't have to worry about ruining the carpet when we throw a deer in the back or when we load up a 4 wheeler. A roof rack would be a must but safari style or even a pop up rack would be cool. Another neat thing would be tent attachement ala element and aztek. 2 rows of seats are fine. No one needs 3 unless they are a mom. a low deck height is cool so its easy to load. I would like it to ride low also. Why do all mini vans ride so high? There is no "COOL" mini vans and thats a shame. They have SO much rom and generally are pretty economical to drive compared to a truck. I love my xB but it won't haul items like my truck. I HATE my truck but it hauls what I need.

The Porte would never survive in Duluth, MN -- some hills are so steep I think it you would start to go down and it would tip forward and roll over down the hill.

In any case, if that's what we have to look forward to, I'm happy with my tC which is, IMHO, the best of the brand. Don't get me wrong, I'd introduce my mom to an xB any time, and an xA to my brother, just because I don't like him.

Those are just the JP modz and model and name are just what they are called in JAPAN, so those are just xA`s Japan style .
I can totally see the xB turning sort of into the porte or also there is the NLSV ( New Life Support Vehicle ) from the 2003 37th TOKYO Motorshow .

Look for the NLSV
Both the Porte and NLSV have the familiar Front Fascia and BIG inside and SMALL LOOK Outside . The NLSV has the MOONROOFS from the tc .
Both these are Smaller than the xB , so a much bigger engine might not be needed . Just like how Light the xB is . The WIDE sliding doors of the Porte and NLSV are cool and give easy access . Check out the configs on the NLSV site .

Yes I know Scion floated the CCX around and was saying it was going to be the TC, and during that whole time they had the TC as we know it today and were testing it. Scion has been hinting for a while that they would be coming out with a car/truck thingy. Well guess what, the CCX is a car/truck thingy. Another person had a post where they were in a Scion focus group and Toyota engineers were asking them how they would like a car/truck thingy, sounds suspicious to me. I can’t see them really coming out with anything else because everything else is all ready out between the Scion and Toyota line up. I personally don’t like the CCX and hope that it is not the next model but I am fairly sure it will be some sort of truck/car thing, hopefully better looking then the CCX.

If you had taken the time to actually check out the CCX before writing your post you would have noticed that the rear glass moves forward, like in the GMC Envoy, creating a “pickup like space” in the rear of the vehicle. Call it what you like but I think it is a car/pickup thingy. No body will know for sure until the DL comes out, hummmm, well no one except the people that work at Toyota. I too think a El Camino-esque car could look cool judging on what Scion has put out already.

Totally. I don't see why people don't like it.

Its a bit more modern and aerodynamic than the bB and it gets rid of one of the main things I don't like--- the tinny rear doors.

One big sliding door makes way more sense and its unique. A sliding door isn't going to tink and twang when you shut it with a micron too much force like the back xB doors do, you can get out of a car in a super tight spot without hitting your door on anything. It's brilliant.

Have you guys seen the inside of the Porte, before you knocked it?

Way nicer and more modern than xB and the rear seats are just as huge and even easier to get in and out of.

I'd trade my xB for a Porte in a second.

It's a different type of vehicle my friend. Tis somewhat reminiscent of a Suzuki, Areo I believe. Not really my style, but the sharp curvieness is a bit sexy. Think it would make a nice toy for the gradeschool group.

Just go take a LOOK at Current Model AZN cars in Singapore and Japan , I dont know the names but there are a couple of them that LOOK very Porte-ish NOW. For now I really like the BOX-Yness of the xB . Its Slightly ODD , like ME :crazy: The xB size is Good for me , I was next to an Excursion and could Not believe HOW SMALL the box is, I like it.

Is it any Bigger / wider / taller / shorter than an xB ?

The grill is in the front, between the lights.
The porte is a 2 door hatch back.
The passenger side door is a power sliding door and it can be opened by remote.
The porte is the same size as the xb on the outside, but way way roomier on the inside.
