So I bought this turbo off this guy and its a Garrett t3 turbo but he said that he ran the turbo with ought engine management or without an E.C.U. reflash by Toyota for 4000 miles and had no problem. I have heard that doing this can and most likely will blow your engine. He was only running 5lbs of boost and that’s all I want for a little while. Is it safe for me to put the kit on my car for like 6 months and put up to 10,000 miles on the car without causing any damage? Is anyone else running this setup or have any idea if it is possible? I dont have the money to repair my engine if it blows so i need it to work .

 

If you don't have the money to repair it, don't boost. you NEED engine management, I can't stress it enough. you WILL damage your engine whether it be blown, or just a lot of stress on it with any management.

I wouldn't install this kit until you have management and can affored to get it tuned

 

10k in 6 months sounds like you're gonna be daily driving. I personally wouldn't daily drive a turbo'd tc if i didn't have the money to repair anything that goes wrong. And i wouldn't drive a turbo'd anything that didn't have management. I believe you can get an E.C.U. reflash from turbonetics but i'm not positive about that.

 

I'm turboed at 5psi w/no engine managment, no problems since July. Or about 10,000 miles in the next 200. BUT I am getting one in the next month. So I dont know how long you plan on going.

 

Don't boost on a budget. I was considering going turbo but I couldn't afford it if something were to go wrong, so I decided against it in the end.

 

I hope your not getting up on it. Just putting more wear on the engine..

 

yes u can run a turbo at a low psi without management. It won't be as reliable as running it with which MAY cause issues in the future. I would recommend either saving for management or just go naturally aspirated.
