View Full Version : How many tCs sold?

Anyone know how many tCs have been sold? I know most places have a long waiting list, but I was curiouse as to how many are on the road so far?
This would also help determine how common the rattle and whatnot problems are. It seems there are at least a dozen people having problems, so I'd like to know what percentage that is of total tC owners.
Maybe one of the dealers here would have this info?

i talked to a dealer about how i had heard the scion was selling well, but how i never saw any on the roads around here. he mentioned that any dealer that sold all of the tCs allotted to the dealership would state that the car is selling well even though they're not pumping out sales like Camrys. he also said that it's a benefit to finally getting a tC. that you won't see a billion of them and the customizability makes it easy to set yours apart while being affordable and reliable.

but i don't really have the answer to your question. just mindless dribble. also i did a poll before about rattles and i think i got like 9 people with rattles and like 20+ people with no rattles, but the poll was also kind of subjective. so.... yeah.

I think about 20,000-25,000 have been sold since it's launch. I read somewhere they were only putting out 40,000-60,000 out it's first year.

someone has vin number 5,000 and change on here and I picked one up in Sep with Vin 16,000 and change.
looks like they started at either 0 or 5,000 so at least 12,000 by now maybe 17,000

search for a better answer perhaps?

YES, a brand new marque with a brand new model .... this car is selling extremely well as it should,

you would have to be a moron to buy a Civic or Integra or Altima or blah blah with these Scion prices.

and if u have money to burn to get the Altima 3.5 v6 youd be a moron to not get a Infinity G35 imho.

unlessen its DEEEEEEEP discouinted,

oh well party on SCION members rejoice in your most ingenious of car purchases hehe

Seriuosly! Could you imagine how many cars Scion would sell if they were sitting on the lot and there were no waiting? But then again, if they could crank them out that fast, they probably would cost a little more, but whatever. I like that there are only a few on the road, cause then when you see one your like "Hey, there's one right there!"

Hmmmmmm, might think that the "unavailability" also fuels demand? Put out a great car, amazing value (rumors online that toyota actually loses money per tC sold), and not have enough to keep up with demand. Hmmmm, how do you create hype again? 8) My VIN is 15,000 something, bought about 3 weeks ago, so figure 20k sold so far?

Ok, so if we say there are 20,000 sold, and 10 people have reported the creaking problem here, that's like 0.05%, right? I guess that's not so bad.

You gotta realize that not every tC owner posts or has even heard of ScionLife. 10 people might have reported it here, but it doesn't mean that only 10 people have experienced the problem. Just my 2 cents.

True. We also don't know if there were actually 20,000 tCs sold, so this is all speculative. I'm just trying to get a generalization out there.

On the other hand, If I had purchased a new car, and it was having problems like this, I would do a search on the internet. The forums would show up (which is how I found scionlife to begin with) and then that person might be inclined to respond.

Figure that they are making and selling at least 6000 tc's since the launch date, so figure the math our yourself. :)

I took delivery of my tC on Oct. 21 and the dealership had it on Oct. 14th. My VIN Number is 20XXX. The wait was 6 weeks for me and I was told it was going to be 8. Now that number has increased to 8-10 weeks.

I tell you what though... best damn thing I waited 8 weeks for!

Through the end of September there have been 15,656 sold. I think I read about 7,000 tC's were sold in October. www.scionzone.com posts the figures every month when they get them.

So I guess we were pretty spot on with our 20,000 guestimate. Good to know. Thanks.

when the tCs are out of production (which is rumored to be in like 3 years) will a low vin # from the first year of production make the car more "valuable" collector-wise than a tC from the last year of production?

Otocan
11-05-2004, 02:26 AM
probably not because I'm sure the next 3 models will have updates and upgrades here and there that will make people want them more than the last year's model - keep in mind this is the FIRST year of the tC - ever - not like an accord or a camry that's been in production for like 20 years.....

Yup, 20,000 tC's have been sold through October... at least that's what Scion is telling me...

Interesting that the xB has been selling so well, it's actually creeping neck and neck with the tC. And sales of the tC are actually going down. Seems like the xA isn't so hot...

I'm kinda glad that the tC's sales are dropping off...maybe 'cause I already have mine. I don't want everyone and their grandma driving a tC. I like having something that turns heads 'cause it's not common.

Scion is limiting production of tC to 4,000 per month, so the car streets dont get overcrowded with tC... There are no plans to raise the production.

4,000 per month is awesome number for an coupe, much more than what Celica sold like...

p.s. and stop with the roumour crap, all new Scion cars will last as long as normal Toyota's do (5-6 yrs), with exception of xA and xB that were already 2 yrs in production elsewhere before they came here as scion, and Toyota makes money with them or they wouldnt build them

Well, if they have already gone so far down the road as to have production of the vehicle it's not like they would just scrap the whole thing if sales were low for a year. Even the Aztek sold for more than one year, hahah. On the other hand, if they do decide to axe one of their models, you can probably guess which one it will be.

As opposed to Non Car Streets? Our Test tC Here in Toyota of Escondio's vin is 5095 =) I just went and looked.

to settle this, from the detroit news:

Yet the most telling disparity between the two cars is in their sales: By the end of October, after only four months in the United States, 19,667 tC coupes had sold. That blew past the 17,484 previous Tiburon models purchased since January.

link: http://www.detnews.com/2004/autosinsider/0411/08/autos-328170.htm

looks like between 4-5000 tCs sold per month.
