Default The tire shop scratched up my bumper

Apparently their employees are incapable of taking studded tires from the back without leaving 3 large scratches in the bumper. All where the paint was completely scratched through to the plastic, so now my silver bumper has black lines in it. They of course denied responsibility until I argued with the manager. He eventually agreed to get it fixed.

Now I'm not sure how they can get this fixed, since the plastic is indented with scratches. Not to mention their body shop doesn't provide a written warranty on their work, but they said they fix it so it looks like new. The tire place said they won't pay for anywhere else to fix it since they have a deal with these guys to work on all the cars they f*ck up. So I'm stuck with either a striped bumper or probably shoddy paintwork.

Does anyone know in a situation like this, if I have a say in who does the work? I'm not claiming this through insurance or anything so I assume it's not handled the same way as a regular accident would be.

Report them to the city and the BBB and they will contact them. Take pictures of the scratches for proof and see if you can figure out what tool or object caused the scratches.

As far as how it can be handled I dont know. But what I do know is how they will fix the bumper. I work in a bodyshop and when bumpers are damaged like what you described what we do is featheredge the scrtches out as best as possible and if needed use a flexible body filler for the scratches, then sand, and prime. If the damage has punctured the plastic then they would have to plastic weld the crack. There's my two cents worth.

^^ x2 on all of that from top to bottem.

If they really do shotty work then they will sand the scratches with 80 grit, apply bondo even though the bondo wont grap bo the plastic but it will grab the paint around it. It will look great when u get it back but after a few months the bondo will peal from the paint and crack right over the scratches. Not to mention they probably will do a bad job wet sanding it since its silver (the lighter the easier it is to make it look like its a good job but if you look up close you'll see the job.

Well my guess is they scratched it with the studs in the tires.

I just spoke to the body shop and asked what they do if something goes wrong with the paintwork a couple years down the road and they said they would fix it for me. I asked to get that in writing and they agreed to it.

Lol...Well I don't want to call them out or anything, but if you're local you'll probably get this. They're the shop that runs out to your car when you drive up. And occassionally has free beef when you buy tires. Probably the best known tire place in the NW.

That sucks. Just get everything in writing that they are agreeing to because that will be your legally binding contract. Just type one up or if you have a few extra dollars, get a lawyer to make one up for you and you sign it, the manager, and a witness and date it. Hope it works out for you.

They feed you beef at a tire shop?!

That sounds about as safe as the dollar menu at Mcdona.ds The fish sandwhich. Seafood for a dollar? Bah I dont trust it.

Beef.....

I know the chain of tire shops you speak of. I stopped going to them also.

They scratched up one of my stock wheels taking a tire off. They fixed the wheel, but it was a hassle trying to get them to do it.
They also broke a wheel stud from using an air ratchet I'd guess. Dealership fixed that for free fortunately.

I'd recommend Discount Tire/America's Tire in the area. I use them exclusively now, never done me wrong.

Sucks to hear about your bumper though.

Many people at work told me the same thing about this shop, and coincidentally recommended America's Tire as well. I'll go there from now on.

And yeah, the guy who owns this chain also owns farms, so they used to give like 10 lbs of raw beef when you bought tires. Sort of like an incentive. "Come buy tires and we'll f*ck up you're car. But we give you beef so it's all good."

Its hard finding a good wheel/tire shop. I usually go to americas tire but they have messed up a few times. For example, when I got new tires on my stang they put my rear tires in front (I have 17x9 and 17x10.5) I was like WTH does something look wrong??? the last time I went there was to put my wheels on the tc, I bought them second hand from a guy who had them on his WRX, they were flawless and since I had to have the sensors put in I figured I'd let them do it, when they were finished, they F*ed up my wheels BAD! on all 4 wheels there was knicks and scratches from their machines (when they put the tires on). Then there were like "you cant prove they were there before" I was ____ed, after about 2 weeks, they decided to give me 4 brand new wheels free of charge, but man I had to call them and complain EVERYDAY till they did it... Im scared to get new tires now I may just stick with the ones I have on now forever! lol no really im thinkin about it...

Well I got my car back yesterday. The body shop did a good job, they repainted the entire bumper and clear coated it. The total came to $670 which was billed to the tire shop. They even took out the only scratch I had on my car and gave me a nice SUV as a loaner car.
