What kind of system do you have? Boxes, Subs, Amps, Speakers! Post up your pics to give us some ideas!

I've seen systems in an xA where they took out the spare and had enough room for an amp and 12" sub, covered it with a preforated steel plate, and was able to completely conceal it under the mats.

That may be ok. i would really like to see some custom fiberglass boxes. I think that is what i am going to do, and paint it the same color as the exterior. I just need ideas on how to close of the gap between rear seat and box. I may have it hinged or be on springs for when the rear seat is tilted or not.

That would be cool, but I've had my vehicles broken into and stereos stolen too many times to want to do that myself.

Oh wow that is so cool! How far does it stick out of the floor?

rhino74s
07-01-2008, 02:41 PM
Maybe 6 inches or so.... the sub box is actually sitting on the floor of the tire well. We cut out the sub box shape on the amp rack too. That way it is as low as possible.
The reason for the visible slots on the sides of the false floor is for lighting that will be mounted on the amp rack. Should give the box a nice highlight at night.

Here are some REALLY rough pics of my system install so far.

I have a hard time getting good shots in the dark.

Hifonics ZXI8008 5 channel amp
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" components (front)
Infinity Kappa 69.3i 6.5" (rear)
Lanzar Optie15 EQ
Lanzar 1.7f capacitor
JL 12w3v3 12" sub.

All stealth.

With some light:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff294/TrebleStauter/Cathodes012.jpg

It still looks like this when covered:

Sorry for the terrible pictures. I need to get one of my photo buddies with some decent equipment to do a full shoot.

I also have custom rear fiberglass enclosures in the c-pillar for rear fill. I wish I were less busy and could take more pictures.

Soon I hope!

I did a small system, reused my old Autobahn 10" amplified sub and purchased a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD, also installed the interface for the steering wheel controls and a HD Radio adapter. You don't see the sub since I have the cargo cover installed.

Greetings fellow Deviants! I landed an RS1.0 last week (#227, woo hoo!), and wasted no time getting down to business. within twenty-four hours, I had the passenger seat ripped out, the center console dismantled, the carpet pulled back, and the door sills off for Mod #2: subwoofer install (Mod #1 was removing the tacky plastic badge the dealership slapped on my new baby's butt -of all the NERVE!).

I too kept it simple. I've always built my own sub boxes, and I make them as small as the driver specs will allow (usually because they end up in the ten inches behind the rear seat of my Jeep. I'll put up a pic of the enclosure I'm using later, when I pull it out to pack fiberglass batting in it. For this install, I went with the base head unit and transplanted a 480 Watt Sony X-Plod amp and one of my 12" subs from the Jeep, and added a 1 Farad Rockford Fosgate stiffening cap.

I stashed the amp and the cap under the passenger seat -here you can see the amp with the front seat pulled all the way forward...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/2629826704_0f0bb91f34.jpg

With the seat in it's normal position, it's completely hidden, as is the cap, which you can see from the front (if you get down on your knees)...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3133/2629826496_e2feed90ca.jpg

...and, of course, the work in progress...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3091/2629876578_9e2dbef3f2.jpg

I ran the power line across the back of the engine compartment and perfed the firewall one inch below where the A/C condensation relief tube exits. Then I simply tapped into the rear speaker lines at the head unit to feed speaker-level inputs to the Sony.

It won't liquify any skulls or win any competitions, but it's enough to add some SICK low end frequencies to my commute, and it packs enough thump to set off an adjacent car alarm :P

vfrjim,

Was your system a direct bolt in replacement for the factory Pioneer or did you have to modify the bezel/mounting hardware?

Looks great!!

Any double din unit will be a direct swap. Only things you need are a basic Toyota wiring harness and Toyota double din spacers to fill the gaps on the side. Any audio shop will have both.

damn, nice set-ups guys.

all i got is a 1000 W kenwood mono amp with a 300 W RMS infinity 12" dual coil in a regualr black carpeted box. entire set-up cost me about $400 ($10 for the box from circuit city when they were going out of business, $10 for the cables from walmart LOL, $150 for the amp and $150 for the sub, and $80 on a 4 year warranty from bestbuy).
