Default Just got a Rockford forsgate P400-4. Tuning help!

Well I got a rockford forsgate p400-4 for really cheap. Well cheap as in ZERO dollars cheap. Hahah, I know I know....and I did not steal it either! My brother really hooked it up.

Well all I had to do was buy the powering kit, speaker wires and the hi-low converters with RCAs.

I prepped the harness lastnight and got all my wiring zip tied and taped up with electrical tape to keep it clean. I installed the amp this morning as soon as I woke up. I got everything done within 1 and a half hour. I think its pretty good considering I didnt know exactly what I had to do. After I finished, I only had enough time to quickly play with the settings.

What Im trying to figure out is what I really need to do to fine tune it so it sounds great. I know its probably not the best amp you can buy, but its good enough for me.

-------------------------------
Heres my set up:

OEM pioneer HU
Alpine Type-s components all around
and now the Rockford amp.

How should I go about tuning the amp tomorrow when I wake up?

I was told to first change all the settings to ZERO(bass/tremble and the fade/balance)
Then turn it to around the lower-middle of the maximum loudness (around 20?)
After that, just start playing with the gain, bass and tremble amplifiers.

I listen to a lot of hip-hop/ electronica equally. I dont want hardhard hitting bass(where it rattles everything) and I dont want supersuper crisp hi's cause it give people headaches. I want something with a good balance of both.

Can anyone help me out?!

your stock radio is the problem, you can't mess around with the settings too much, although press and hold SSP until you hear the beep and put the setting on xB or Xa cause tC is too low and weak. then i would put the SSP on feel and leave the bass at zero and trebel at 3/4 all depending how much you want of it. if you change your HU yeah you'll get 5-7+ EQ settings which the stock radio doesn't have but give one of those settings a try and see if it sounds better for you.

From what I understand, to properly tune your amp:

1. Turn the gain and boosts on the amp to 0.
2. Turn the HU up until you hear distortion, back the volume off until all distortion disappears. Leave the volume here, you are at maximum signal-to-noise at this point.
3. Adjust gain on amplifier to what you think will be your maximum listening volume.
4. Adjust treble/bass to your liking.
5. If you get what is called alternator whine when you rev the engine, you have introduced a ground loop to the system, otherwise you're fine.

If you DO have a ground loop, try to pull out the RCA's on the amp to the point where only the prong is making contact, not the outer "tube" of the plug. If the issue disappears, you know there is a ground loop somewhere, and you must locate it to stop the issue.

Hope this helps!
