View Full Version : Driftin' the Box
daneisthegreatest 12-23-2007, 04:26 PM So last night it rained and I was at work til about 3:30 am...when i got out of work i noticed that there were no cars on the road at all and the roads were slick from the rain and oils from cars and what-not...i was going about 40 down the main drag that i work on and noticed that the light to get on i-110 was green
I looked down at the e-break and got an awesome idea....yeah....drift the box...and i must say it was by far the coolest thing i have ever done at 3:30 am EVER...kind of makes me want to buy a Silvia
houseofgrafx 12-23-2007, 06:25 PM i did that a couple weeks ago on dry road....OMG that was a blast. prolly wasn't as fun as on a wet street though. i couldn't get a full 360 :(
emximer 12-23-2007, 11:25 PM I've been driftin on some snowy roads lately, what a blast it is.
Lovin that e brake!
djct_watt 12-23-2007, 11:37 PM If you want a mastery of vehicle control, learn to do it without the e-BRAKE. Yes, it is possible, and yes, it is much harder to do without RWD. . . and yes it is an epic fail when compared to RWD drifting.
PS, what is an e-break?
houseofgrafx 12-24-2007, 01:37 AM I can't imagine trying it without the e-brake. i'd like to see some video. :)
Jan06xB 12-24-2007, 01:43 AM You have your VSC turned off when you are doing this ?
houseofgrafx 12-24-2007, 02:07 AM of coarse
layzieb36 12-24-2007, 03:11 AM Thats sick...much props to you man...I've been tempted to hit mine in the past and ummm yea, I thought better of it ha ha.

-ChrisX2 I'm chicken. hahaha
draxcaliber 12-24-2007, 04:05 AM oh man, that was one of the funnest things i did when i worked in florida. leaving work at 130 am, there was a left turn at an intersection onto a road that was at a greater than 90 degree angle, and then that road itself had awesome bends, and with the automatic sprinkler systems soaking the road at night, i could slide around the bends. such a fun way to drive home.
djct_watt 12-24-2007, 08:19 AM I can't imagine trying it without the e-brake. i'd like to see some video. :)
It's easy... Just takes practice and good car control. Scandanavian flick + lift throttle oversteer.
swartzautoman 12-24-2007, 01:44 PM you can find tuns of videos of drifting on youtube
you could always do this, ive done it one of my older cars and its like having a 500hp rwd car

OC_ScionBox 12-24-2007, 06:10 PM driftin' and scion in the same sentence =
bB2NER 12-24-2007, 08:58 PM driftin' and scion in the same sentence =    :rofl:Agreed, the only Scions that can legitimately drift are ones that have been converted to RWD. Otherwise, not so much. :tap:
Jan06xB 12-24-2007, 09:06 PM Yeah without posi-front wheel drive the inside tire lifts and you loose power to keep going - only way to do it is on a downhill turn with a tightening radius.
OC_ScionBox 12-24-2007, 09:31 PM please no more threads about scions and drifting, i dont care even if its rain or snow

Max_Misawa 01-13-2008, 11:18 AM I thought it was called as* dragging, not drifting?

Max
they are two different things.
Matthews_Lewis_Racing6226 01-21-2008, 05:14 AM is it possible to drift an all stock or somewhat modded box?
Matthews_Lewis_Racing6226 01-21-2008, 05:17 AM is it possible to drift an all stock or somewhat modded box?
Yes and No.
Stock, all Scions are FWD. This means that these vehicles do not have the ability to use throttle to control oversteer, which is typically what most people would associate with the sport of "drifting."
However, A FWD car can be forced into an inertia drift, or Scandinavian flick, by a quick overcompensation initially made while beginning a turn, causing the rear of the vehicle to swing outward. This is typically done in conjunction with a quick yank and release of the e-brake to help break the traction of the rear tires.
daneisthegreatest 01-21-2008, 04:56 PM haha UV7 knows what he's talking about...very nicely put...
almost like listening to Bill Nye
snowromance 01-21-2008, 05:42 PM awesome!
I guess a less "Bill Nye" answer would be...
Go find an empty parking lot on a wet day, turn off your TCS, build up a little forward speed (nothing too crazy), then yank up on that e-brake while turning your steering wheel hard over. Voila! You're drifting (well, sort of...).
djct_watt 01-21-2008, 07:22 PM There are tutorials on youtube if you search for them
InfumusXB 01-22-2008, 01:46 AM drifting in a xB? thats nuts i gotta see sum videos or something
