Default Loose oil pan shield sounds like tranny going bad!

After a 30 mile drive tonight, the auto transmission in my 08 xB has developed a terrible grinding noise and is omitting a burning smell. It came on very suddenly and is very prominent when slowing and the trans. downshifts.....you can watch the tack and listen to the sounds and they match.

I am calling the dealer first thing tomorrow morning to get this thing into their shop ASAP. I hope they come pick it up as driving it will certainly cause more harm.

After driving 94,000 miles that were care free on the VW that I jus traded in on this car - I am more shocked than anything else. I will certainly keep the forum informed.

Anyone else have transmission problems with just regular commuting and that few a miles?

Don't have an auto but my manual is a little notchy (2nd gear) in the morning before it warms up. G/L with your ride. Sounds like the tranny is toast and will get a replacement.

there was a trans recall on some V6 camry transmissions, but haven't heard of any issues with this trans. I'm guessing the dealer will be able to help you out

Default went to the dealership....

I went in this morning and the service person told me that he could'nt fit me in becasue he has a "skeleton crew" on Saturday. He requested that I return to the dealer first thing Monday morning - which I said yes to. I asked him that if he felt it was ok to drive and he said - "You drove it here - keep driving it." Not really the first service experience I was looking for with this new dealership.

Basically I was told that it is under warranty - if it fails and strands you beside the raod - tough luck. Or at least hope it holds up until Monday.

Lame service - lame.

Default car back....

I just returned from the Scion dealership and they have fixed my problem. Not the transmission! Halleluliah! The metal splash plate underneath the oil pan had come loose and was vibrating against the oil pan - thus causing the awful, under the engine noise.

This was the first time the tech's has scene this and they too initially thought that something big was wrong after the first drive.

After about 45 minutes and an oil change - all is good here in xB land!

Thanks for those that showed concern.

Kind of a weird deal, but good if you know what I mean.

You might even consider editing your topic heading to reflect that since it is a little misleading now.
It would make it easier to find this topic again if it happens to somebody else in the future too.

It went away as fast as it came on. During the service and since it hasn't smelled - so your guess is as goos as mine.

The dealership didn't seem to think anything of it either.
