Default How Good is the xB? & Backseat and trunk room

Ok so my sister is looking at new car but there's nothing she can afford that's big enough. We started to look at a used 06 xB with 16K miles on it. It was lock and the place was closing so we have to go back monday.

Anyway, what I want to know is how is the backseat and trunk room? I sat in one and thought it was good but it was just me. She has a 9month old so she needs to fit the car seat that he's in now and the front facing one later. She also needs to fit the other stuff in the trunk and still have room for misc. stuff. She has a 15 year old also and husband but they don't ride in the car too much. So how is the room for that situation?

Also how is the car in general? I have heard good things but because it's used I'm a little worried. I also want to know how it holds up in crashes. Any input would be good.

let me just say that it has a big back seat that is good for many things ;) but seriously, the back seat is great, ton of room back there, the trunk is small to say the least but all in all there is a lot of room back there

The rear seat has amazing room. Adults can sit in the back and have enough leg room. My two year old daughter rides in the back and can't kick my seat. That is a lot of room. Her mom's '06 Passat doesn't have that kind of room. The trunk space is ehhh. I can fit a jogger back there along with other things. If you have a car seat in the back, at least one as big as the one I bought then only one adult can fit comfortably in the back with the seat installed. Just my experience.

There is a LOT of room in both the front and rear seats. The "trunk" area behind the rear seat has a fair amount of space. If you need more, fold the seats down. With the seats down, you can fit ridiculous amounts of stuff inside.

My only concern with children and the xB is the lack of side airbags and not so great crash ratings.

Yea, it's quite large inside, and the cargo area is quite versatile.

I routinely have five people in the car, and it has also fit a 42" plasma screen in box.

Tons of space for all my snowboarding gear when I goto the mountain, not one of the best cars in safety though but I don't think its one of the worst either.

I also have a small child who's seat is placed in the middle ( safety first) the back has enough room for our large stroller as well. I think it's perfect as a commuter family car.

I dont have to move my car seat up to fit it behind me. I have 2 kids and the double stoller fits in the trunk and enough room for a couple(2 or 3) of grocery bags. Then again if you need more space there is all of the foot space under the car seat.

Thanks for the replies!

One other question... This is a used xB so is there anything I should look for to be a problem as far a running wise, sounds or shakes that might be a known problem?

THANKS!

Mine rattles a bit. But that's the bazooka sub something in there.

But yeah, lots and lots of room in the back seat, the trunk is alright. There's a compartment under the carpet in the trunk if you didn't know that.

I have been very happy with the hauling, short of buying a sheet of plywood....I have hauled a lot of larger items without a problem. Even had 4 passengers a few times...no problem...

Thanks for the replies! We went out looking today for more cars and found a minivan that she will be happier with. I also feel better that she and my nephew will be safer in a bigger minivan. I just couldn't get the image of her getting rear ended in the xb and there only being lie a foot and a hafe between the back and where the baby is. She needs a new car bcause some idiot pulled in front of her and totaled her car. Anyway thanks again but the van will be a little better fit for her.

I will miss that she now won't be able to join my car club.

well, i can't seem to make the pictures work.....Just wanted to show the ultimate hauling capacity of my box car. But I think when they make a redesign of the tacoma again, i will buy one of those. Unless scion does make that truck...

For her situation I feel the xB would have been perfect. It handles crashes with flying colors so it is also a very safe vehicle.
A minivan instead of xB, oh well she has to drive it.

I'd like to see any mini van out handle, stop better or get better fuel mileage than an XB. As far as "safer" goes, 1 of my XBs was rear ended by a large truck - the roof did not bend, nor did the sill on the impact side _ the seat mounts - almost always bend with this kind of impact but not here. Another example "lives" here in town that was rear ended by a Saab, which was totaled, the XB was repaired & is still on the road as is mine, none the worse. No rattles - no problems.
Sure the mini van has more room but it's debateable to how much safer it REALLY is. I'd rarther be able to drive my way out of a bad situation than not. Remembet these cars have VSC & ABS both of which work very well. No mater how good the ABS or VCS is, in the mini van, the added weight will not allow these systems to operate at the same level as the XB.
Just my $.04 ( adjusted ) worth....
Happy new year all.......
