Security guys just stand around and do nothing. I want to be the guy who watches the monitors in a little secret room somewhere and spots shoplifters.

AP or LP... assets protection or loss prevention would be their fancy name.

here's a vid of target APs at work

Loss Prevention is the job you want...
Although you have to verify with the company that they are a hands on company before hand or else they wont let you touch them due to the chance of being sued.

I am becoming a cop though haha
Doing GE right now in the mean time until I am 21

I'm in a director or sorts for fire and life safety at Microsoft we have on our main campus in Redmond at any given time 10-30 guards roving campus in vehicles, not including officers assigned to executive protection. Our facility is pretty bad a$$ we have different security agencies from around the world that come to tour here and ask questions our officers make anywhere from 13-23 dollars an hour depending on the duty, and then we have a fully staffed control room as well and we have pretty sick bennifits.

ALOT of the guys I hire are ex law enforcement / military and such, When I started in this thing I was just a security guard and I got made fun of all the time, but I really enjoy it and it pays me pretty freaking well now (it did then too, but now that I'm one of the bosses I love life that much more har har) and I get to travel to our remote locations all around the world weeee... plus windows vista ultimate only cost me 50 bucks

I L-O-V-E my job, originally I wanted to be a cop, went to school for Criminal Justice and pre law... decided I could make more money here and stayed.

LOL awesome thread, it really does seem like everyone wants to be a cop. I know me and a couple of friends plan on it in a few years

I'm just about to finish my 2 year degree this semester, and planned on going to the academy when I do, but I think im going to just finish and get my bachelors I'm a sociology major...

And that video of the Loss prevention people wrestling shoplifters to the ground is pretty crazy. My manager (I work for home depot) just had assault charges dropped from when he got in a fight with the loss prevention at Target. Loss prevention got confused and took him to the ground instead of the real shoplifter and they started fighting. My manager ended up punching the Loss prevention twice in the face and breaking his jaw

The best thing is that my manager use to be a cop LOL

Holy crap, you work at Microsoft and they still make you pay $50 for Vista, they truly are evil. I ended up getting XP for $5 under a university license agreement, they give out office for $1. For Spice and Matlab we had to use Unix with X-Windows though. I'm not a cop but work as an enggineer for the Navy, does that count since apparently the US military is now policeman to the world? We're trained for combat, not peacekeeping, what's an F-18 going to do without an authorized target?
