Default Black Ice = Accident.

Well, yesterday I post about my car being vandalized (keyed).
The bad luck continued. I don't know what it is, but something is seriously out to get me. Today I was driving back from a class I take at Hamilton College, and to get there you have to take the "back roads." Today the weather changed for the worst. It was hailing, quite windy, and extremely dark at about noon. I'm casually driving and all of a sudden theres a patch of black ice that my xA took and it started going out of control. The next thing I know I'm head first in the ditch, barely conscious. It was horrible. First time I was taken on a stretcher and in an ambulance to the ER, and hopefully the last. I was discharged after a few hours, and luckily I am just sore all over with neck/head aches. I have to wear a really ghetto neck brace for a few weeks too. Now to the car. The car was not totalled, thankfully. The front bumper is done, needs to be replaced. The rear bumper as well, and the two front rims (yes I have an RS1 so those are the 17" Enkei's) are gone as well. Thats about it though, thankfully. Earlier my dad took my car to the shop and put on winter tires with steelies. In the next few weeks, the car will be in the shop getting major work done to it. I am just thankful at this point that I am here tonight posting about my experience on ScionLife.

DAMN --- when it rains it pours, i guess! Good thing you aren't hurt worse than you are!! If i were you, i'd stay indoors, and unplug EVERYTHING within reach... just to be safe.

sorry to hear about your accident!

Glad to hear you are alright! As you are waiting for the RS to be repaired, think about how much fun it will be to drive it again. After all, it did take pretty good care of you this time.

on the plus side insurance will cover it. AND you can say the scratch wasn't there before the accident.

insurance will give you money to get repairs done. since you need to get parts from toyota anyway, and they are normally abit pricy, you could probably get a body kit for a couple hundred more. and if you know the guy that owns the shop, you can do it on what the insurance company gives you

Glad you are OK.

I guess the VSC didn't help much. Any thoughts on if the VSC did anything or not? Sorry if this is a silly question but I just got my RS a few days ago and I haven't looked into how the Scion VSC system works compared to other systems.

I hit black ice going 43 mph in my RX8 and the DSC is the only thing that keep the car from spinning.

thank you for your concerns everyone, it means a lot.
update - I am doing much better, just a little sore. But overall I'm alright.
Took the car to the dealership yesterday, dropped it off. They said it might take up to two and a half - three weeks to fix everything. They gave me a car to drive until then, and its a brand new Toyota Rav 4 with like 8 miles on it (i think its kinda cool that its new lol) But anyway, thats the latest with me and the car. They are also trying to see if the rims that were damaged can be replaced or not, otherwise I will have to buy a brand new set in the spring :?

About the VSC - It did work, otherwise I would have been flipped over on the other side of the road. It helped me maintain my balance well enough to skid into a ditch, and not like tip over or anything.

Thats it for now - thanks

Glad you weren't badly injured! Hope your car gets repaired to your satisfaction.

How do you like the Rav4? I almost bought one, but changed my mind when I saw their crappy paint jobs, and decided on the Scion instead.

Glad to hear you and your car made it out alright.

Several months ago I got into an accident in my brand new XA. Was driving down TO boulevard going 50-55mph when another car pulled out across traffic, ending up directly in front of my car. I don't believe I had much of a chance to brake before the impact. Unfortunately, my XA was totalled and several vertebrae in my back were broken. I'm not sure whether I was rendered unconscious by the force of the airbag or the impact itself.

I ended up replacing that XA with a new RS 1.0, I'm pretty happy with it. Consider yourself lucky. :D
