Others have posted that they have problems with their leg hitting the OD button while driving. I had this same problem and I couldn't find a decent replacement shifter for less than $100. Even when I decided to go ahead and pay the $100 I couldn't find anyone who had it. So I finally got tired of it and took the center console/shifter apart. Once you get everything taken apart there is no way to shorten it that I could find - the piece you would have to shorten is metal and it is attached to the whole mechanism. On top of all that, it is threaded for the shifter to attach to it and that means you would have to shorten it from the bottom to leave the holes in place to attach to. So, after almost giving up it dawned on me - you can just flip the whole top assembly around so that your shifter release button and OD button face the passenger side. You have to cut the OD wire and reattach it after you spin it but it is fairly simple.
1) Remove center console and pop off the PRND cover
2) Cut the OD wires coming from the top of shifter about 1" from sleeve
3) Remove screws in shifter and pull the entire shifter off the post
4) Pop the top of the shifter off of the piece where the screws go in
5) Flip the shifter top around and put it back on the piece with the holes
6) Slide it back on the post and splice the OD wires back together
7) Reassemble everything in reverse order and put console back on


Works great now - and no hitting the button all the time!! Plus - cost = $0.00

Couldnt you have just cut the wires to the switch and mount a new switch in a different location?

I'm trying to imagine what sort of combination of sitting position and anatomy allows people to bump the OD button with a leg. In most cases, your leg would have to hit the big gear selector button and press it almost all the way in before it would touch the OD button. Then there's the question of why a leg would be flopping over there in the first place. Oh well.

This wasn't a post asking for comments on the leg/OD problem. I just had read other posts with people complaining about this same problem. If you don't have the problem - why even post? And yes, you could just add a OD button. But why add some piece of crap aftermarket buton when you don't have to. I guess I should have just not posted - I just thought this might help other people.

i was wondering how the shifter looks turned 180.??

and isn't there a plug you could disconnect, rater than cut those wires??

(again i have the stick so, i can't go look)

Looks just fine turned around - works great.

I tried to trace it back to a plug so I could just get some slack and not have to cut. It appeared there may have been a plug under the entire shift mechanism, but I decided not to take anymore pieces apart. I am sure there is some way to do this without cutting.

I have the same problem, I am a big guy, 6'3" and 315 pounds. My leg rest against the the shifter all the time, my leg pushes in both buttons very easily. I thought about turn in 90 degrees be sides the 180. I am going to have to try this mod again.
