View Full Version : MMW HEADER....MISSING GASKET?
Wubbarican69 01-11-2008, 09:22 PM I just recieved my package for my mmw header from weapon-r...and the only gasket that is in the box is the header to s-pipe gasket.....isn't there suppoded to be a actual header gasket?....does anyone have this header set up?
josh4201 01-11-2008, 10:18 PM Yes! I have the mmw header and s-pipe. I said the same thing when i got mine, I called weapon-r and they told me that you reuse your stock gasket. Its made from stainless so it will work fine. Ive had my headers on for 20000 miles with no leaks or problems on the header.
FYI
The hp gains they tell you about on the web site are pretty close, IF you have intake and exhaust. Mne made 23 hp more and 21 tq.
2_much_tc 01-11-2008, 10:26 PM i know megan racing gives you a new gasket, i dont know about Weapon R...
Aroddalobster 01-11-2008, 10:37 PM you use the stock header gasket.

Do you have a dyno sheet to prove that? :tap:

I got 163.79 hp and 162.23 tq on my best run. I will try to post a picture of the dyno sheet. I have mmw header, injen sri, magnaflow axle back.
Wubbarican69 01-12-2008, 07:43 PM well thank you guys for the tip on the stock gasket.... But I have Big Problems now....lol guy Becareful removing the bank one o2 sensor.....mine seized so when i took it out it stripped!!!! so now i had to order a new one!!!..... not to mention that i installed the magnaflow exhaust and the header now get this............it is not direct fit!!!!!!! it all fits right but.......the s-pipe does not meet the beginning of the exhuast system.... so i have to fabricate a piece to connect the s-pipe to exhaust!!!!!! more updates to come....

Yes for some reason the first O2sensor has given us problems too when we have done installs here as well.
Our Header is a Direct fit. Always has and always will be. Please post pictures of your claim of it not meeting the Exhaust. Please. Also we are always here during 9am-430pm Pacific standard time to call.

svencarlson07 01-14-2008, 09:14 PM i thought the same thing.. but it ended up the springs where header connect to the s pipe go in the center of the two flanges..and then the s pipe meet up with exhaust
curtislo9 01-14-2008, 09:17 PM Does anyone have rattling noises coming from spipe/header/midpipe region after installing the header, if so/if not, could you help me solve this problem?
Is it from not tightening the nuts?
svencarlson07 01-14-2008, 09:20 PM Yes I have same probelm its the spipe hitting against axle. Frame idk how to fix it
curtislo9 01-14-2008, 09:23 PM It's a quite rattling right? I feel embarrassed when people walk up to my car...
TCpete 01-14-2008, 09:28 PM Yes I have same probelm its the spipe hitting against axle. Frame idk how to fix it
i have the same issue of it hitting the output shaft from the motor and its grinded it down... ive debated on either making a new spipe (which i dont want to do), hammering the pipe to either bend it or warp it some so it doesnt do it anymore... or selling it all and going another route in which i personally really do not wana do cuz i do like the headers gains i get past 4k rpms...
i actually want to make a 2.25 spipe ....and not the current 2.5 spipe... to get some TQ back
Wubbarican69 01-14-2008, 10:10 PM well i cant post a pic, but i do have a video. i dont knwo if i can post that here. ill put it on youtube and post the link....buy yea i have the rateling problem to. its not always...its only when i accelerate. from a stand still or from 2nd to first............here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpxTwqPk5es
Aroddalobster 01-14-2008, 10:31 PM i have a few rattles, but honestly, i've become either deaf or just too used to it. i'm just hoping its nothing too big... i heard it was the heatshield under the car, but not too sure.
TCpete 01-14-2008, 11:05 PM to all of you who have put on or have added a larger sized midpipe and exhuast... what was the feeling after you re-did your exhuast piping.. did you guys feel improvements in performance... losses??
svencarlson07 01-14-2008, 11:54 PM i only get it when im car is idealing or im in 1st but at a light or stop sign and im stopped but as soon as i hit the gas it goes away
Wubbarican69 01-15-2008, 12:49 AM i just took it for a spin... and i notice my rattleing occuring at low rpm's for instance if i take off from 2nd...i hear it most. but once i hit 3000rpm its gone. ...as far as perfomance goes....with my particular set up.... i did notice a loss if not a neutral respone at lower rpm's however from 2nd to 3rd to 4th.....any thing that i'm at high rpm at......it is very noticable....but you know what......i've been doing some thinking......i spent 475 for my exhaust system, 499 for my headers, 205 for my intake.....and that almost $1200 bucks for what has been dynoed at a gain of 26hp?!!!!???? anyone else see the problem??.... i can spend another $800-$1000......and be talking about a gain of 100+hp!!!!!! my point is let my experience help a few other looking to do a set up like mine..... save a few more bucks and just fo turbo!!!! im probably going to pick up a turbo kit sometime this year....and sell my current shi*.........any recommendations from you guys as far as decent turbo kits go? im looking for at least 300hp.... theres a dude i work with who i really want to shut up with his 94' 300 hp v8 vette. and another with his 300+ m45......lol its gonna happen..... so come on fellas what kits you think are best bang for the buck...??
TCpete 01-15-2008, 12:52 AM did you do the mid pipe also???
svencarlson07 01-15-2008, 12:55 AM you r gonna get a rly ____y kit for only 2g...expect to put up 5g for a good turbo and only get like 250hp from it
Wubbarican69 01-15-2008, 01:03 AM true, but my point is expressed in that you can get a ____ load more power if you were to go with a turbo...rather then spend the money like i did.......as far as the mid pipe question i re-did everything from my headers....all the back to the muffler. all stainless
svencarlson07 01-15-2008, 01:04 AM or u can do all that and go s/c and get good results and keep ur warranty :)
curtislo9 01-15-2008, 02:56 AM TCpete, I have a 2.5" midpipe with a resonator. I loved it once I slapped that on my car. It's definitely noticeable and makes the car a bit louder.
curtislo9 01-15-2008, 02:58 AM My question still is unsolved, how do I stop the rattling?!
svencarlson07 01-15-2008, 02:59 AM im going with a vibrate stopper material to wrap around the spipe where its close to the frame and see if that stops it
curtislo9 01-15-2008, 03:06 AM Hmmm. post your results. That may cure it!
mengsta 01-15-2008, 10:34 PM Hey Pete i thought you stopped the rattling? ALot of people just tried to bend it to give ot clearance.
cee_dub2003 01-15-2008, 10:57 PM pictures please. We need to know what you are all experiencing. We have done a few install here and have had no problems what so ever with clearances on anything .
rolloutrs1 01-16-2008, 02:43 AM has anybody gotten a cel after install? mine came on a day after installation and when away after a day or so. this morning it came back on and im hoping it would go away again.
mengsta 01-16-2008, 03:05 AM Are you using the CEL eliminator?
rolloutrs1 01-16-2008, 03:26 AM ^yes i am.
mengsta 01-16-2008, 03:59 AM WAaattt thats weird. check the connections? iono, sum1 with a MMW longer please chip in on this.
hmmm u could get a s/c along with the mmw header setup but ul have to keep the stock intake... or if u really want the 5-10hp the injen cai gives u... ur gonna have to spend a lot more money on a piggyback ecu... in other words get turbo (zpi stage 1 gives u great #)
and the s/c mmw and s pipe u can pray for 220whp!!
Aroddalobster 01-16-2008, 04:12 AM maybe the 02 sensor got F***ed up when you were either taking it off or puting it back on. not sure...
cee_dub2003 01-16-2008, 04:28 PM Our CEL eliminator is adjustable to a certain extent. It does matter how far you thread it into the SECOND O2 sensor bung. Try rethreading it a little bit out then lock it wit hthe large nut. Then reset the ECU, and try that .
curtislo9 01-23-2008, 09:42 PM So I just got under my car to tighten the bolts holding the header and s-pipe together to try to stop the rattling noise, but it didn't help. My pipes aren't touching the frame of the car either...so I don't know what could be the problem... Any help?
mengsta 01-24-2008, 12:37 AM I got a weird rattling noise too, Its not necessarily as loud as a metal to metal rattle would be, Its kind of a unique rattle? like lil small metal peices are shooting out or something right? lol
curtislo9 01-24-2008, 01:35 AM Maybe like little shavings of metal that are inside a container that is being shaken? I think we are experiencing the same thing. Any yeah, no pipes are resting against the frame either...
It's occurring between the header and s-pipe connection (I went under the car when it was up on jack stands while it was on to figure it out (I know it's dangerous, but I was desperate haha))
Where is your rattle taking place?
mengsta 01-24-2008, 02:40 AM I do that too, i just make sure i have jack stands. mine is yeah between that connection. It is NOt rattling against any kind of metal frame or anything, weird huh? And it cant be literally metal shavings if this rattle has been going on for about 1k miles for me. Pretty weird. i mean its bearable. it also comes back wen i drive till 3.5k rpm.
curtislo9 01-24-2008, 04:46 AM Hmmmm. I can't really here it because by the time I'm at 3.5K im going at WOT hahahahaha. But yeah, I think we are experiencing the same thing, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think that the type of bolts we are using may be the problem...
Is your exahust gasket/doughnut thing covered all the way by the s-pipe? Because mine isn't.
mengsta 01-24-2008, 04:55 AM no it isnt. The gasket is not covered all the way, the round part of the s pipe is not big enough, its like this so that connect can flex, hence why the bolts they use are spring loaded. In cases it does need to move , this type of connection will let it bend a bit. Could be the bolts causing it to rattle, though, and yes i am glad im not the only one. Install was a B*ITCH in my opinion, the bolts were not long enough, Very hard to put on. it barely reaches the other side, with barely any clearance room. I was very dissatisfied with the fitment, I shuld of let weapon-r install it, since i drove there to pick it up anyway. And let them really see how it is. lol and yeah the header sounds SWEEt at WOT huh? I try not too gun it too much tho. But besides that the rattleing isnt too bad, it usually happens right when i do a cold start, and the idle is high for a bit. HEaders looks good, and performs good, so we can prolly say that small rattle is tolerable. As long as its not some direct contact, i dont think it will break anything.
curtislo9 01-24-2008, 06:00 AM Nope I don't think it will break anything. The rattling only occurs at idle at start up and occasionally @ idle anytime. I still get a little rasp at WOT/aggressive driving if the car isn't warmed up all the way or the car hasn't been driven for a long period of time (keep in mind I have a small moroso resonator on my midpipe). Yeah install was a bia....I had trouble re-connecting the O2 sensor with the CEL fix.
See...I bought the header used, so the person that gave me the screws/bolts had them mixed up with some other screws/bolts so I went to Ace to pick up some nuts to fit the spring loaded bolt. I thought that may have been the problem, but on second thought I don't think it's the nuts; more the bolts. I'm not sure how to fix this. Maybe next weekend I'll try different spring loaded bolts, or maybe one of us should call MMW lol.
mengsta 01-24-2008, 04:30 PM i actually personally drove to weapon-r's place to pick up my header. I asked them to make sure i recieved everything correctly in the box. They said yes, and they are really nice people. They especially have this dog that i love, super cool. Till wen i got home fitment wasnt too good, n stuff. i guess u cant realy do much about it.... most aftermarket parts wont be close to OEM fitment or quality. I just wished i let them do my install right there at the shop so they know wth is going wrong.
curtislo9 01-24-2008, 05:01 PM Yeah, I think because we know that there is a noise, we are more aware of it. I was listening to my car from afar last night and found that it was not "too" noticeable. So I guess it'll have to do, until I have time to get under my car again.
