Default Last time I checked, it wasn't a Lexus....

Just about every other post in these forums is a complaint about something. If you wanted a "noise/problem free" ride you should have spent about $15-$20K more and bought an Infinity or a BMW and even then, there WOULD NOT be any guarantee you'd be happy. Something would creak or your shifter feels weird and......well, you know..... If the reason you bought it was for price, go buy a Neon....they're cheap. Probably rattle too, but cheap.

Do a search on just "rattles"....... how many of those have you wasted your time reading? I've been viewing this site for about 6 months now and every 2-3 days we get the same question or concern raised--- I get it! Your car rattles, get over it....

You know Comprobable cars like the RSX and the GTI don't have bad rattles or road noise. So no, I won't get over it.

The RSX and GTI are cars that have been around for at least a couple years (GTI longer). This is the first year of production for the tC. I'm pretty sure I heard that the RSX had tranny problems in its first year of production (someone confirm this). And the GTI I'm sure had its fair share of bugs the first year it came out.

The RSX had some emissions equipment problems (minor).

The GTI continues to have MAJOR problems, not just rattles. Failures of engine sensors and electrical grimlins (ignition failure).

So yea, there needs to be some patience with Scion to right the tC's very minor woes.

Not only have the RSX and GTI been around for manny more years, but they are both $4,000 more expensive. How do you consider that comperable? I think the only real comparisons can be made with the tC and the Mazda 3: Both first year body styles (frames, shocks, and engines for both borrowed from Protege, Mazda 6, Avensis, Celica or Camry), similar HP and TQ, and similar price. Someone should check out a mazda3 forum and see what complaints they have.

My friends mazda 3 is great. My car and my friends TCs are both rattle traps.

My 93 mitsubishi didn't rattle, so why should my brand new scion? No new car should rattle.

With 5,000 miles on the odometer, I've had no problems at all with my tC. But I'm glad that people that do have problems are posting them. If nobody complains, the problems won't be investigated. I'm willing to bet that my car has fewer problems because people on this and other boards pointed out the trouble spots, which Toyota then focused on and dealt with.

It doesn't matter if the tC has more or fewer problems than other cars, or whether you should expect more or fewer problems for what you paid. Everyone has a right to expect that their problems will be fixed.

Yea, I hate the _____in on this forum. If you wanted much more perfect tC you ppl could've waited for a 2nd year production, or even 3rd year. I love my tC.

Right, it shouldn't. And not all do, but it seams as though more then a few do. But you shouldn't expect Acura or VW solidiity. But then again, my buddies new Hyundai doesn't even rattle.

Hey, did you get anywhere by taking your tC to a different dealership? what about the lemon lawyer guy?

Ok, well how about we compair it to the Honda Civic or the Toyota Corolla. My friend has a 2003 Toyota Corolla and it doesn't rattle.

Also, I have 1.8K Miles on my tC and I have the hatch rattle.

I love my tC too I just hate how there are quality problems like this. Toyota needs to fix them free of charge.

My sister has a Hyundai Tiburon and it's actually a very nice car. The inside and outside build quality is very good and she gets about the same gas milage as me.

Hyundai right now is nothing like the old hyundai.

LOL! NO! I was just trying to point out that just cause the tC is an economy car does not justify it being poorly put together.

Well, those are in the same price range, but the main thing is that this is the first year the tC has been out. Both the Civic and Corolla have been out for quite some time, and have gotten all the bugs out. I'm sure the 2006 tC will be better. And as the guys in the shop have more time to work on tCs, they will figure out how to fix your problems. This is just something you can expect from being an early adopter. The first year Mazda came out with the rotary engine it was real buggy. At least the tC has a long warantee.

Between Nick's poor understanding of sample sizes and the absolutist bromides ("no new car should rattle"... yeah, lecture mercedes-benz while you're at it) being tossed about, I'm going to pull a Chef Raekwon and ask y'all a favor...

Please label any new threads about rattles with the appropriate word "rattle." Or if you have something positive to contribute, say "rattle fix." This will allow us to skip the whining and bleating and go straight to the threads that have actually something interesting to say. Thanks yo!

A rattle is minor. A engine senor malfunctioning or tranny problems is something to _____ about. When I buy a car I expect it to have some minor nuance, especially in its first production year. Now if I bought a BMW or a Benz, I would _____ about a rattle. This is why BMW and MB have higher rates of people _____ing. Even then, you should expect something to possibly be not right in the first year of production. It's a rattle. Be damn happy its not a messed up tranny.

Here's an email I sent to journalists at major newsmagazines.

Dear Journalist,

I enjoyed speaking with you today. I have included my list of Mercedes problems below.

I wish I had read your article before purchasing my Mercedes Benz ML430, which has had 50 or more problems, and 60 days of service in 4 years. It helps potential buyers make a more informed choice.

I had to return the vehicle on 20 or more occasions to Autonation (the dealer) for warranty repairs. All Mercedes is willing to offer as compensation is $1000, when purchasing a new Mercedes. Despite the many defects Mercedes Benz has not offered to repurchase the car.

The problems included a defective brake system, a defective electrical system, a defective navigation system, a defective washer system, a defective AC system, defective locks, defective trim, defective doors, windows and sunroof and a defective entertainment system.

In addition it often took 1 month to get the vehicle serviced. Often the dealer did not fix the problem on their first attempt, resulting in having to return the vehicle again for repair of the same defect.

I have attached a more detailed list of the problems below.

I get the impression that 1 out of 4 have many problems (not a formal survey).

I look forward to your next article about Mercedes Benz quality problems.

Sincerely
c
