View Full Version : Scion Ground Effects Kit or ... ???
wRadar 01-15-2008, 12:08 PM Hey, folks! I'm pretty new here, and am in the market for a new tC. I've been doing a lot of reading up on the various body kits that are available, both on this site and the retailers linked from various posts on here.
Here's my deal: I'm trying to decide if I should get the Scion Ground Effects Kit when I buy the car (for $1.2K, or whatever it costs), or save the money and put it twards getting an after-market kit. I plan on daily driving the car (when I'm not DDing my Tacoma), so whatever I get should stand up to decent amounts of road time. Kits like the Obsidian and Buddy Club 2 look nice, though I've read that I'd be spending a LOT more than just a couple grand on getting the kit painted, installed, and fit right.
So, any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your input!
Have a great night,

Yanki01 01-15-2008, 12:36 PM OEM or nothing! I would get it when purchasing the tC aswell to let the dealer install it. Unless you have the cash after you buy it and would like to install it yourself. You can find it a little cheaper here with instructions if you think your up to it. Unless not i would say buy it with the car and let them do the labor so you wont mess it up. Any other things i would not get with the purchase and get them through TRDSparks.com.
$860 for the OEM lip kit here...

ChimChim 01-15-2008, 12:54 PM I got my ground effects when i purchased the car. It was easier to have the dealership put it on.
wRadar 01-15-2008, 12:59 PM Thanks for the input, guys. Just to clarify, if I get the Scion Ground Effects Kit, I'll definitely have the dealer put it on. I'm just wanting to know if folks recommend getting this kit, or saving the $$ and getting an after-market kit, considering my desires. Thanks!
ChimChim 01-15-2008, 01:19 PM I like the kit. It really all depends on your taste and style. Some people will say no and some will say yes. I think it accents the tc just enough for my taste without going overboard.

very well put. not sure what color you're looking to get, but if you're looking at superwhite, you NEEEEED the OEM kit. it just looks plain naked without one.
wRadar 01-15-2008, 02:43 PM I'm looking at the Flint Mica...

Yippie!! Good choice!! :-) not that i'm being bias or anything.
bigwillystyle23 01-15-2008, 07:03 PM ground effects kits arent really that hard to put on or anything.
enjoithis 01-15-2008, 08:45 PM I agree, factory kits are easy. Side Skirts are replacements and front and backs go right on no problem. I myself went with a RS1 lip kit from racingsolution.com - it needed a little bit of work to get on there but in the end it came out great. It isnt the same quality as factoy but it looks alot better (IMO)
bigwillystyle23 01-16-2008, 02:36 AM what kinda work did you have to do to get it on there?
bkuhl 01-16-2008, 04:59 AM I recommend that if you do purchase your vehicle, try not to finance the cost of the accessories if you don't have to. It's just rediculous to finance in the cost of a lip kit for $1200ish or a HU upgrade for $400ish. In the long run you would end up paying $2000ish and $700ish respectively if you financed them in to the loan.

Not sure if the rs1 kit attaches the same as the OEM Lip Kit. I know for a fact that the front lip of the OEM kit requires several slits to be cut into the bumper. I haven't removed or checked the rear or the sides, but I know for a fact that you have to cut the front.
wRadar 01-17-2008, 02:38 AM Thanks for the input, bk. Definitiely something to think about with the financing "smaller" accessories...
Higgy 01-17-2008, 03:51 PM Im going to get the 5axis kit eventually. You might want to take a look at it. Very nice.

unxpectederror 01-18-2008, 05:35 AM get the oem kit. i think the car looks naked with out one
bigwillystyle23 01-18-2008, 04:42 PM im glad scions dont need a body kit to look good. civics on the other hand, need a lot of work to look good. =P the only kit that doesnt look out of place on the TC is the oem kit. some of the more outrageous looking kits are okay on show cars with a lot more crazy stuff but for a daily driver i dont want anything huge like that. ill def. buy the prepainted oem kit for 1k as soon as i get the money. the RS1 kit doesnt look bad either, for the price. and carbon fiber lip kits look good depending on the color of your car.
wRadar 01-18-2008, 08:52 PM Awesome, thank for the input! Only 8 more days until I go make the big purchase... :D
Have a great weekend,
