Due to vehicle modification to the floorpan, I am unable to carry a spare tire inside my vehicle. I also dented one of my rims and it got cracked during the repair. it has been rewelded but will wobble a bit if used on the front. I now have a replacement rim and want to use the cracked one as a spare since it's not visible from the outside.
I'd like to mount the spare on the rear hatch but feel the extra weight would overwhelm the stock hatch struts. Does anyone know where I could find a replacement or have a set made. I'll be asking Redline Tuning if they do custom jobs, I'd check with Tein but they'd charge an arm and a leg. Any other suggestions? the rim is 17 lbs, not sure on the tire weight.

yeah, I would be running a metal bar behind the hatch skin and actually mounting the tire to that. I'd like to terminate the bar at the strut attachment points to keep the load off of the hatch skin and frame. The license plate would need to be re-routed though.
