I'm guessing I'm the first person here to actually really pull apart and try to use the space under their rear seat, because I've seen no references about this. So, here's my dilemma:

I've got my 2 amps, cap, and 2 distribution blocks (ground/power) on the bare floor where the tray used to be. It looks sexy (pics forthcoming once I figure out this part), but now that I've got it tuned to where I'm 98% happy, I went to put the bottom cushion back in place and...well, if you've taken out the bottom cushion before you'll know that the foam is so thick that it goes pretty much to the floor (their way of supporting it).

As such, my amps & cap are about 1-2" too high since they're... about 2" high (JL 500/1 and 300/4, and Tsunami 5 farad). So, my dilemma question is: Do I cut some of the foam off the bottom, or just squish the amps even more? It's mostly pressing towards the rear where the foam comes to the floor, and over by the cap since it's taller than the amps.

so are the amps going to get any air flow? i would worry about the elctronics getting hot and melting the foam

 

They'd get flow from the side/front/back as they'd have some breathing room, but the top and 1 side would be covered by the foam.

 

i would definatelt be conserned with contact btween the foam (probally flammible) and hot electronics

please be careful with that foam catching fire. do anything you have to to keep the amps from touching the foam. it's just not worth the risk.

 

What if I modify the foam (IE cut it) and put carpeting on the bottom of the seat to keep it from direct contact w/ the amps?

 

Move the amps. That wont work. Cutting the foam will just make the seat sag more and it will still burn up the amps because they will be running way to hot.

 

Not possible - there's nowhere else to put them given their size/etc without losing the cargo area or something else. :/

 

I put mine on top of the spare under the carpet with fans.
Take out that big foam tray theres tons of room.

 

Was going to put the ED subwoofer under there, but it looks like I may have to go this route. Did you just build a custom tray for it and pop it on top there?

 

Yep the amps are mounted to MDF that fits and it has foam under it against the spare tire. If you plan it right i think you could get the ED box and some amps around it. Those side pockets also come out and will leave you alot of room.

I looked at putting my amps under the rear seat also but there wasnt enough clearance.

 

I have 2 amps, cap, 2 dist blocks all mounted in the factory customized foam tray above spare and have no problems with heat being too much for foam, been there for 4 months,
