I just went to local aftermarket shop and popped the bulb out. Then went inside and got a replacement. Did it all in parking lot since it was really easy. Took all of like 2minutes to take out and put new one in.

it is 168 or 194 which is basically the same thing. the install is very simple. find the plug, and twist. need i say more? :D

oh yeah, i forgot to mention that any color(other than amber) might be illegal. you will have to check local laws for this.

i installed super whites on mines.

blue or red bulbs anywhere on your car would be asking for trouble.

the bulbs i used for the lights are a 194 apc blue bulb, i also changed the front turn signals from amber to blue and have had no problems with the law
they look very blue during the day and at night they look pale blue to bright white
about $14.00 for both sets of lights

remember keep your old lights in the cargo spot in the trunk if you get pulled over tell the cop you ll change them right now if he lets you off w/out a fix-it ticket
he doesnt want the paper work anyhow

it worked on my old car, but your right it could be worse in that case
just say you had them in case one burnt out, it all depends on the cop and why you were pulled over
oh ya, and take the writing out of the plastic that says "for show and off road use only"

No. Bad idea. HID has been beaten to death on this board. Do it right (OEM retrofit) or don't do it at all.

sorry i dont know much about these lights, does it tint the color of the headlight beam or something?

kaypee
11-10-2004, 06:51 AM
you'll only notice the color of the parking light if you stood right above your headlights or if you kept the lowbeams off. The light coming from the low beam will overpower anything from the parking light, I really doubt any cop would pull you over while you're driving for having blue parking lights because they are pretty well hidden. seems like their only function is making the front of the vehicle visible, it doesn't give off much light to be useful to the driver.

Oh... the most you can pay for 194 bulbs is about $25...which I got. a pair of PIAA led bulbs... total waste of money. but it's only $25... would had spent that money on burritos and booze anyway.

there is no release button/switch for it. you will have to find the socket and twist it, then it should pop right out.

just installed mine yesterday. it was 194 for the parking lights and 7440 for the signals. i did them all in superwhite LEDs. looks nice, but the turn signals go to fast. maybe the voltage is not the same on the LEDs. guess i will just have to get used to it.

for the passenger side parking lights. take off the regular bulb, it makes it easier to access them. and turn them counterclockwise. when you pull your old bulbs out. use a rag or something. because the oil in your fingers may shorten the life of the bulb

I put in some purple-white LED's a while back to go with my Silvervision headlight bulbs. The heat from the headlight bulbs eventually melted the plastic base of the LED bulb and they both failed. I took out my Silvervisions when the car went to the shop for repairs after a Chevy Avalanche backed into me (the curse continues). I did not want the repair shop screwing up my bulbs when they took out the headlights. I got a replacement set of the same LED's and they are melting without the Silvervisions. Has anyone had any luck with LED's that can withstand the heat of the headlights? Once these fail completely, if I cannot find a better LED, I guess I will just try and find a superwhite 194.

I tried the chrome/blue bulbs and they are way too dull. The apc blue are much nicer. The bulb on the passgr side was hard to get to but well worth the acrobatics it took to replace them.

I have a set of these built into the JDM H4 conversion kit for my Miata. They are "citi" lights. When I was in asia people used to drive around in the city without thier headlights (streetlights provided pleanty of light, as well as all of the storefronts) but had these low powered lights in the headlight assbly so they could still be seen.

I have this same problem on my T-Bird. I put LED Brake/Turn Signal bulbs in it. Since the LED's use less energy than the regular bulbs, the car thinks a bulb is burned out and the blinkers blink faster. Oh well. You'll get used to it.

Nice. Im looking for them in blue on EBay. Couldn't find the right ones. I kept getting Xenon in the search, unless I typed the wrong thing. If anyone finds an ebay link post it please.

Also I went to a local autobody shop and the guy had no idea what I was talking about, even after I showed him. Ill try another place tomorrow. Sucks there isn't an autozone around where I live.

be careful with the LEDs though. alot of people have said that the LEDs don't last long there. if you use one in the accent light, it burns out very quickly because of the heat from the main headlights. from http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm:
"Do not use LED bulbs in the same housing with head lamps, the heat will cause them to fail quickly"

Alrite thanks a lot. I wont get the LEDs if they will get messed up. I also think the regs I saw were 99 cents a piece which is a good deal. I was thinking of going with the blue because I have the blue car, but what would you think of it with red or green?

like komik posted, can find normal incandescent glass bulbs that are different colors on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7958545837&category=36476

or

autolumination: http://autolumination.com/194.htm (near the bottom)

and you can try the lcd bulbs. i mean, they are cheap, but be warned that many people on this forum have complained that putting an lcd bulb in the accent spot makes them burn out very quickly, probably due to the heat of the normal head lamps as specified on superbrightleds.com

Actually, if i understand which lights you mean, you mean the colored bulbs. Yeah, i've used those in the past and all they do is lose their color. If you touch the bulb then they lose the color really quickly.

The only way to go if you're wanting colored bulbs is to either get the ones that have the glass that's colored, get Xenon filled super-whites, or get LED replacements. LED's are by far the best since they last forever, come in many colors, and use little to nothing in power.

As far as autozone or pepboys, i doubt they carry any of those. But if they do, make sure they aren't the cheap colored bulbs. A good set of super-whites (194's) are around 9.99 i think. But if you're changing several bulbs out... buy them online... the best and cheapest way. (though not the fastest)
