I think stock tires are "ok" at best in rain. How fast were you driving in the rain?

I was rounding a corner at about 40 mph with no throttle, and I could feel the front tires start to slip.

I normally take this corner at 40 in the dry with no throttle, no problems.

The car just generally feels not nearly as stuck to the road as in the dry. I never had this problem with my old Celica.

the drop you are considering will fix that. . . but the stock tires do suck. I don't have problems when cornering(thanks to the drop), but peeling out is way easy thanks to FWD and crap tires.

Yeah my stock tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE92's.

They blow total ___. I auto-x'd with them and my instuctor agreed with me. The grip like ____. I can't wait to get some Falken Azenis .

damn, you must have gotten upgraded OEM hardware. . . those tires definitely aren't the stock tires the rest of us get.

The RE92 also came on the Impreza, which I use as winter tires. They are *proven* to be worthless, especially at Auto-X. They have terrible tread wear and grip is below average with poor snow traction. The only good thing about it is that the tires are Made in Japan. If you have the 16" wheels though, it's always possible to get replacement RE92 from the Subie forums, possibly free

Should have bought the RS1 :D The yokohamas that came stock on the RS1 are very nice for normal wet driving and even in the snow.

The Yoko's on the RS1 are awesome.... the front 2 with the Enkei rims are gone though because of my accident, but they are being replaced. I put on Bridgestone Blizzak's for the winter with steelies, to preserve the Enkei's and Yoko's for spring. :-)

My 05 xA came stock with the Bridgestones, and they aren't too terrible, though I have nothing to compare them to. There's about a two-inch think sheet of ice on all of the roads right now, and that makes driving up and down the hill to go to work a lot of fun. I feel safe as long as I stay in town - max speed limit in town is 30 and is strictly enforced - but I definetly would not feel safe travelling out of town. I'm ordering Blizzaks this week. Then when spring rolls around, I'll get some 17s to replace the stock steel wheels, and a completely new set of tires.

Recently had some very heavy rain here and noticed no excessive problems with the car's handling or stopping distance.

Gunning it in the rain will result in slippage, but it can be prevented by driving cautiously...just like you're supposed to in the rain! Anyway, our car is an econo car...don't expect ZR rated tires stock.

Ran into some seriously heavy rain with my RS1. No problems with the car's handling.

It really all depends on the way you're driving.
