Default Black square piece on shifter console

So what is the little black plastic square piece next to the shifter, i was wondering if you could take that out and paint it silver, it seems out of place, i think scion should have spent another 50 cents on each car and painted that seriously. So does anyone know what its for?

I believe a light goes in there if you get the Scion alarm system.

It has a little leg on each side of it that snaps into place. One of my legs broke off when I tried taking it out, so be careful.

The silver colored plastic piece around the shifter pulls right off, then you can press in the side clips of that knockout and you can paint it, or do whatever you want with it.

Iv been tryin to think of something exciting to put there.

So far my best idea was a pez dispenser.

One day my friend, one day.

I've taken apart that whole console now and found that the Hazard button will fit in there as well. Its Scion's switch place holder. I was thinking of just throwing a small LED in there or putting a 12v cigarette lighter in there. That way I will have more than just one that Scion skimped out on.

I think I'll just put a blue led there. You can buy ones that blink when you turn the car off if your too lazy as I to buy an alarm system.

Im debating if I want to move the hazarf button down. I think the blue light on the scion logo would be more exciting!

According to the owner's manual, if you can't get the auto shift lever to move, you pry out that cap and push a switch inside. Something like that. I don't have the book in front of me right now.

I do like the PEZ dispenser idea.
