Default Chip in Key?

O.K.

I am totally confused. Does the 2nd Gen xB have a chip in the key or not? I am going to install a Remote Starter this weekend thinking that the xB has an Engine Immobilizer circuit if you do not have
the correct key with a chip in it. If it doesn't, then why is there a keysense wire? I am now wondering if I should go ahead and add the Alarm system while I have everything disassembled and wiring exposed.

If it does have the Immobilizer circuit do I need to install the Bypass module also?

Someone please help.

Thanks.

you just have to get a bypass.

Can I just strap a key to the inside of the steering coloum or do I have to buy a bypass?

I have seen universal learning bypass kits from scoche for sale at walmart for $20
will that safice?

There is NO chip in the key. I repeat NO CHIP. I have done remote start and no bypass was needed, and if even if it had a Toyoa immobilizer system there are options for doing bypass without giving up a key (XK05 from Trilogix and 1100X from DEI).

I just noticed where you live. Did you buy your xB in Canada? If so, that might change things. Canada has much stricter laws when it comes to immobilizers.

No xB2's out there have chips in the keys. The Shroud is not made for it. And really no room for a transponder receiver ring.

I did a Remote Start last weekend. Was very easy actually. No cheat sheet but yet found every wire very fast. Had it done in about an hour.

The American version of the xB defintiely does NOT have a chip. Unfortunately, Canadian versions of cars sold in America frequently add immobilizers. A perfect example is that most Hyundais in America don't have chips in the keys. However, ALL Canadian Hyundai's do have chips.

Unfortunately the Scion is not made in Canada so I had it imported from Arizona.

I'm doing the Remote Start this weekend, do I do anything with this key sense wire I found on a wire diagram of the xB?

If it was purchased in Arizona then I gaurantee it does not have a chip.

The keysense wire is only required if the xB came equipped with a factory alarm. You would simply send a (-) signal during remote start to that wire. I ordered my xB without the alarm so keysense was not required for me.

Ok this is Total N00b, and I have the extinguisher ready for the flamming.. but my car beeps when i lock and unlock, and the key has a remote built into it.. but I don't have any arm or disarm buttons.. so I asume.. so no factory alarm?

it's definately a beep not a chirp..

Thats just it's response to the doors locking? not to it being armed?

If you have a factory alarm you will have an LED on the shifter console. Chances are you probably don't have one. The beeping you are hearing is just the keyless entry system confirming the command.

Here is where the confusion comes in. The sites below show engine immobilizer as standard on the xB. I assume they are wrong. If it does have it how does it work? I can obiviously guess that it is not with a chip in the key.

I will go ahead and install the remote start. Alarm will have to come later. At least I will have all the wires tapped.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I work for a remote start manufacturer so I deal with this all day long. Plus I put one in my 08 xB. An immobilizer is not even a factory option for our boxes.

talk to your dealership..

i'm not sure on the ngxB.. but i do know that there is an option for the xD to get remote start from the factory.

but yah... i'm tired and brain isn't functioning too properly now... so i can't be sure if they had one for the new xB and too tired to check..
