Default PART 3: Audio Question - Other manufacturer for the Stock HU

Would you like to see another audio manufacturer for the factory system other than Pioneer? If so, who would you like to see?

THANKS SO MUCH for your participation!

Not really. It doesn't matter. Most of those who are serious about their sound will swap it out for and aftermarket HU anyways,

I think Pioneer is a good partner. The name is respectable and the decks seem to be good except for the following:
- should have a volume **** instead of stupid buttons (and 50 vol steps!)
- should have AT LEAST one set of RCA outputs
- have a remote control accessory option
- MP3/iPod input would be a nice touch

i've always trusted, respected, and used pioneer.

the stock unit isn't anything special, but because it's pioneer, and does a decent enough job, i'm not crazy about swapping it out yet.

if and when i do, i'll be looking at pioneer products anyway.

A Volume **** would be the #1 needed change-

Edit: I never answered the question- Pioneer is good- Happy with the Stock Stereo

Stronger bass w/o the Sub would be a great improvement also- At high volumes the bass is nowhere near the quality of the highs-

yeah, things i'd like to see:

volume ****
shorter volume range (takes too long to adjust volume)
aux inputs (RCA in rear, 1/8 jack in front)

The stock system is awesome for a stock system. Pioneer is a great company that makes quality products. My top two choices would be pioneer or eclipse for a HU.

As said...

-Change to a volume ****.
-An aux in and a pre-out would be perfect.
-Slightly more volume with the bass de-tuned a little. Even at -5 there's still too much bass on some songs.
-Scrolling text. It's nice to have the text scroll accross the screen to see either the full artist name or song name.

After that's all worked out, there wouldn't be many complaints on the stock radio.

I would like to see a larger touch screen display, bordering on an onboard computer w/ hard drive with Wi-Fi. Park the car in the garage, down load my MP3, movies and navigation from the house. Ready for another long trek to work.

I prefer the new JBL Crown power amplifiers soon to be installed along with the Infinity KAPPA PERFECTS 6.1 and 12” subwoofers. :D

JBL makes good amps, but Kappa speakers make me cry. I have a set in my tundra, and I regret it daily. I bought some other speakers but the tundra has very little room and needed a shallow speaker, so I had to get some Kappas.

The stock deck is an extremely nice deck being stock... it would be nice if they used some slightly stronger internals maybe a 17 rms x 4

if scion/pioneer would add a small 6.5 sub up front... somewhere in the dash i think it would make even more people happier... and maybe put me out of a job... well at least not work on as many scions...

I like the adjustibility of the 50 steps...

Putting a sub in a dash that is already prone to rattles just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. It makes enough noise without help.

The stock headunit is one of the first things to get changed out... if anything i'd rather they have a radio delete option.

Agree... most manufacturers cut costs and make concessions...

Just no double din or funky ___ shapes is all I ask (or built in HVAC controls like my wife's g35)

for ish and giggles a few of my friends took stock g35's to compete in sq events and the judges loved it, they were amazed by the sound and imaging ... they lied and said they integrated aftermarket amps with the stock radio... when they found out it ws stock... they were speechless...

don't get me wrong the stereo in those cars cost a pretty penny but many newer vehicles are coming with nicer stereos...
many people are already happy with the stock setup, as was i, it just nedeed a little more upfront bass, that still retained clarity...

getting the rattles out of the car would improve the sound greatly as well...
i remember my door panels would rattle with stock speakers....

I was recently on business in Illinois and my rental car was a Mitsubishi Galant with the Infinity Sound System. I've never been big on Infinity, but WOW I was impressed with the stock sound system. Something with good overall sound quality output, but can also be adjusted to put some BASS out. Maybe offer multiple headunits as options, so the consumer can choose one that's right for him/her. A single disc CD Player, an In-Dash 6-disc CD Player, a CD/Cassette combo, In-Dash DVD/CD/Navigation, and also have a 6-10 disc changer that can be added on to these head-units. RCA Pre-outs and inputs are a must. This is the only reason I swapped my head-unit out for an aftermarket, I needed RCA outs and inputs.

One last thing...ditch the Bazooka Bass Tube for something better.

I'm fine with Pioneer, and honestly, I'm sooo glad there ISN'T a volume **** - it would totally kill the look when matched with everything else, unless it was totally low and flat. What i would really like is a better equalizer. It's really hard to adjust the system, especially after adding the sub.

As for future manufacturers, maybe they could add more sound accessories or add different levels of head unit that would fit in with the Scion look. The #1 reason I still have the stock deck is that it matches everything so good. I don't want to loose that look.

I think the stock Pioneer unit is a poor unit overall. The lack of a volume **** is a major turn off. The FM recepton is terrible (getting my unit replaced to see if that fixes it). Needs RCA inputs for MP3 player. An optional remote would be nice. Text scrolling would be nice. The XM add on is WAAAAAY too expensive.

Things I like:
MP3 capabilities
Overall sounds from the speakers is good.

Well the stock Pioneer is decent.. but those speakers need more treble.. lots of bass, not enough treble. more midrange would be nice..

I would really like to see an Alpine head unit..
-mp3 capability,
-be able to use either sirius or xm radio,
-a rotary **** for volume control instead of the buttons!!
-more tone control.. bass, treble, midrange..
-6 speakers is great.. but more wattage, since the tweeters are in parallel with the fronts, taking wattage away..
-Alpine has a 60watts X4 amp built into some of their units.. just a thought..

Alpine to me has a cleaner, clearer sound than Pioneer.. Pioneer was always sort of "bass heavy", in that the sound was cloudy, not clear. I am not knocking Scion , I think compared to other sound systems in the tC's class, there isn't anything better from the factory. But yes there is room for improvement..

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE DO WE WANT JBL COMPONENTS! THEY ARE OVERRATED!! AND DONT SOUND THAT GOOD !!
