Does anyone know if it is possible to mount a tow hitch on an XB? I'm thinking probably not, but if there is a way, does anyone know where one could get it done? How much $, Towing Capacity? Any info would be a great help. Thanks

Just a word of caution: xB is not designed for towing. You may, of course, do what you want at your own risk.

From rallyxb: "The Toyota Echo (which is what the xB is based on) is rated to tow 1200 lbs. You will not damage your xB towing a light weight trailer if stay within those limits. BTW. I only have used my home built hitch for my bike rack and mountain bikes. with no problems. " See his profile for a pic.

Also do a search for trailer AND hitch and you will see another one that was built and supposedly has the pattern to make more.

Most unibody cars get the tow-hitch mounted to the spare tire well.

They drill four (or more) holes in the well, a re-enforcing bar is placed in the spare tire well, the hitch goes on the bottom and they "sandwitch" the sheetmetal of the spare-tire well.

I had a metro waaaaaay back when. Had a hitch on it and used it to pull a jet ski all over texas (many trips from Ft Hood down to San Leon, south of Houston).

If the little 1 liter, 3 cyl, metro can pull a jetski for 4 hours, then put the ski in the water, and pull it back out, I'm sure the xB wouldn't have much problem with it.

The biggest issue is finding someone to install/make it and trusting them to cut your bumper. There isn't anywhere for it to come through and the xB is to low for it to go under.

It would also make a hide-a-hitch style mount really hard.

There is a hitch guy near me. He has done several other cars for me in the past. The xB is on his list, so hitches are made that fit . He told me he'd put one on there for $140. I won't let him cut the bumper. He butchered my volvo. As far as being able to pull something, I used to pull Hobie Cats all over the South with a "67 VW Bus.

There's another thread on this for a newly released one made by Curt Manufacturing.
