Before anyone points out the obvious (SEARCH), I have done this, many times. I have done research and have been looking into this for a couple of weeks now. I have decided on getting coilovers for the ride height adjustability and the fact that springs and shocks cost almost as much.
While searching these forums someone noted that the coilovers dampers can't be adjusting without removing them from the car. Is this true? If so, is this a brand specific limitation, a car limitation, or both?
I plan on racing Solo II on the weekends, but this is also my daily driver(and I live in So-Cal) It would be nice to be able to adjust to both conditions, but not if I have to take my car apart every weekend.
I have narrowed my decision down to a couple of choices(but I am open to suggestions)
I am looking into getting either H&R, or Tein. However both have drawbacks that are making it harder to decide. The H&R have no damper adjust, and I have read the Teins on the softest setting are still very harsh.

Any help would be appreciated, I spend hours sometimes trying to decide on what is the best setup.

ok...pretty much you do have to take out the coilovers to adjust the dampening unless u have the Tein SS-p's with EDFC...but the other point is true also, Tein is still a harsher ride than most on the softest setting. It's no worse than having springs though, so it's not that bad IMO. H&R, i have no experience riding on these, but i have heard great things...but to adjust the dampening force...gotta take em out. It comes down to what means more to you...better ride for the daily driver, or convenience

go w/springs andshocks, that'll run you about 700...IF that...depending on the shocks

Thanks for the info about having to remove the coilover to adjust the damper. So for me it's either EDFC or non-adjustable. As for the springs/shocks setup, for $200-$300 more I'm still planning on coilovers. To have the choice to change the height if I decide to is well worth it, besides I just got my tax refund and it will cover my plans for suspension(getting Hotchkis sway bar kit too).

You will have to jack the car up and remove the wheel where you want to adjust. Compression damping is normally from the top, rebound from the bottom or on a external reservior. And spring preload/ride hieght you get by turning the spring.

Well that changes things, because I will be using different tires for track anyways. There is still the fact that the top of the rears will be under interior pieces which can be a pita to remove.
