View Full Version : Building a california smog legal 08 xB
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 03:36 AM Whats up every one,
I'm sure there has to have been a post on here about this, but I am trying to build a new 08 scion xB. I want to get more out of the engine besides just what I would get from an intake and an exhaust. I want to build the car for track use and for shows. I'm thinking new cams, I don't want to do any forced induction, maybe a TRD supercharger eventually but for now I want to try and get the car to run in at least the 200hp area. Thanks guys. Once again, I know that you guys get this all the time.
Mightygnu 02-13-2008, 03:46 AM hahaha. Smog legal? Whats that? That takes all the fun out of it.
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:00 AM ya i know. but i dont want that whole hassle of having to register out of state. haha, I'm just looking for simple mods. It's going to be a daily driver but i want to take it to the track on the weekends. so all i need is a little extra hp, and a damn good suspension

haha. Always can go Nitrous.. but I always recommend FI
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:04 AM FI? fuel injection? whats wrong with the one now?
Ro_Ja 02-13-2008, 04:05 AM FI = forced induction (aka turbo and supercharger)
coryjames 02-13-2008, 04:06 AM nooooob lol just kidding smog legal is lame who cares im in co and we have the same emissions you do and i always pass
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:11 AM ya ya whatever. this is going to be the first car ive built for track. i have a jeep that i built from the ground up. I don't really care that much about it. I mean like I said I may go with a TRD supercharger eventually I just don't want to deal with overboost, and blowing up my engine. I already have a friend with a cracked block from his turbo over boosting.
coryjames 02-13-2008, 04:16 AM the trd supercharger last i heard got canned and overboosting and the over boosting didnt cause the cracked block detonation did hahahahahhaha lol just turbo the son of a b and call it a day
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:18 AM what do you have done to yours?
Mightygnu 02-13-2008, 04:20 AM The xB isn't exactly your most aero dynamic choice, but good luck with the build.
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:36 AM Well I hope to get into micro compact track racing. and I really don't think horsepower is THAT much of an issue as compared to grip
coryjames 02-13-2008, 04:37 AM it has the same drag coefficient as the tc .32
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 04:44 AM how much heavier is it then the tc though?
coryjames 02-13-2008, 04:51 AM 2932 tc
3020 xb
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 05:00 AM so it isnt really that much. thats about the weight of a 6th grader hahaha
divisii 02-13-2008, 05:14 AM A good start...
mild destroke + internals that improve Volumetric Efficiency + TRD S/C kit + cat_back exhaust + Ghetto Fab Intake - weight = legal xB
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 05:18 AM thanks divisii. haha. but some guy said the trd s/c isnt around anymore?
Swagger86 02-13-2008, 05:22 AM i figured on a carbon fiber hood for less weight, i want to keep the seats though. im going for a quicker xb, but with still the functionality, so i can still haul the girlfriend and the rugrats
lvbitwiz 02-13-2008, 06:15 AM thanks divisii. haha. but some guy said the trd s/c isnt around anymore?
Nope, not for the Gen2
divisii 02-13-2008, 06:54 AM i figured on a carbon fiber hood for less weight, i want to keep the seats though. im going for a quicker xb, but with still the functionality, so i can still haul the girlfriend and the rugrats
I believe no 08 S/C has been announced (?) I was thinking aftermarket S/C then ... Turbo's is  bcause of catalyst removal
Carbon trunk & hood, yes! It's a sacrafice (!) of unnecessary items. Common suggestions- Use AAA instead of a jack, fix-a-flat, over a spare tire, lose 1 front (& 1 rear) wiper, manual steering, lighter battery, lose insulation/mats/sound deadener, speakers, lighter wheels.
:blah:
