View Full Version : Just got an AEM CAI vietfob714 02-14-2008, 06:56 AM Just got my intake today... probably going to install it over the weekend... vietfob714 02-14-2008, 10:21 AM couldnt wait so i just finished installing it... hardest part was putting the filter on through the bottom of the car. It sounds just like stock at idle and when you drive normal. When you floor it then you hear a little bit. I don't really feel any difference in power or response. Alot of people say it'll save me some gas... if it doesnt then its a complete waste. I'll post up some pictures tomorrow. Whispaz 02-14-2008, 01:50 PM cool. i want one but i think i'll get a spoiler before an intake. ATxB 02-14-2008, 02:15 PM im ordering mine soon. alot of people say you can really hear it and it gives it a nice roar. im not sure on that but a cold air is a cold air Whispaz 02-14-2008, 02:26 PM i love the cai whistle. when i had the Murano, the sound from just the cai would engulf the whole interior, sounded like a monster.... i miss her :( miketf1 02-14-2008, 04:21 PM can you post pics of the piping between the throttle body pipe and the filter pipe? instead of using the supplied rubber joint i want to replace it with a bypass valve. also whats the diameter of the pipe? a couple weeks ago california has been getting some really retarded weather and having that safety would be nice.. thanks much, mike MikeInABox 02-14-2008, 04:54 PM When you floor it then you hear a little bit. Are you joking? I have one, and wide open it sounds insane. I was surprised, I knew it would be loud, but didn't expect this loud. I went under an overpass and floored it, the sound echoed all over. You can certainly hear it more than "a little bit". I love it. But yeah during normal driving/accelerating it sounds just like stock. As for performance difference, power wise is probably negligible. But I did notice two things. Under hard acceleration, it's much smoother. I had a drop in K&N prior to the CAI, and at full throttle it felt like it would sort of surge/choke at some spots. Kind of felt like a misfire, only not that hardcore. None of that with this. Second thing I noticed was throttle response seems better. Others can argue they felt no difference at all, and who knows, maybe I'm crazy. But I'm happy with it. And for improving gas mileage, the engine can breathe better so that's obviously a good thing. But I don't know if a CAI alone will show a noticable improvement on that. For me it won't because I love hearing it lol. vietfob714 02-14-2008, 05:13 PM My daily driver is a Truck V8 w/ K&N intake & a dual Borla Exhaust... maybe thats why its not loud to me. I thought it would be louder but I don't want to be flooring it all the time. I'm too old for that... used to do it a lot more in my younger days. After you install it you appreciate the details put in by the bigger compies like AEM. I really doubt the ebay intakes would be this detailed with little brackets to hold different sensors and step by step instructions. Still expensive but very well built. The new filters are white or gray ... looks kinda ugly cuz I'm used to the red ones. MikeInABox 02-14-2008, 05:45 PM LOL yeah driving a V8 with intake and duals would make most others seem quiet. Sounds like my dad's truck. One good thing about the new filters (AEM's at least) is that they're oil free. So there's no potential for oil to get on the MAF and screw up the reading resulting in the good 'ol check engine light. Not sure about the filtration difference between the two though. vietfob714 02-14-2008, 06:03 PM its supposed to be better then the old filters chadfo 02-14-2008, 11:51 PM I have the AEM. I think it's a bit loud under heavy load but other than that it's either quiet or had a nice powerful growl. I didn't really notice any perfomance difference at first but after a few hundred miles my car feels a little peppier to me. miketf1 02-15-2008, 01:05 AM ^vietfob714 couldnt answer my question maybe you can! whats the diameter of the pipe and can i get a pic of joint between the throttle body pipe and the filter pipe? MikeInABox 02-15-2008, 03:59 AM I'm pretty sure it's 3" pipe. You can see some pics from someone else in this post: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=204151&highlight=aem miketf1 02-15-2008, 06:50 AM perfect thanks! looks like there is more than enough space for a bypass valve. ::edit:: damnit i am an idiot  that area used to be the stock air box location. no ____ it would fit...
