There are MANY brands of H4 bulbs available, what are your favorites and least favorites?

i like PIAA and sylvania much better than the cheap imitation blue coated bulbs you can buy online or at performance shops. i have used them both and they last a long time. they are bright and look good. the sylvania silverstar shines very white and i have them installed in my scion right now. i'm very happy with them.

I'm rocking some J Spec R hyperwhites on my xA, only got them for $16. I know its not a good brand, but they work just fine for me. If i could choose any brand my choice though would be Raybrig.

I used to not care about brand and would buy the cheapie H4s for my Civic.... I had a couple of friends that dropped the $$ for PIAA and I laughed at them.

But I stopped laughing when I had to keep replacing my burned out bulbs every few months. They went for over a YEAR without a burnout... stupid PIAAs. They made me look bad. :)

I use PIAA's very often, most of the time, I buy the PIAA yellows. They work great!! I think they are lot brighter than those colored with blue or purple, especially in rain, snow or fog. Though I never drove in snow, but it really came in handy when I was driving through rain & snow, color it emmits won't get absorbed by wet road, so it will illuminate in yellowish, and in fog, it won't disrupt your view by reclectiong on fog so I have those installed in my xB's FOG light. Rain season just started, I would highly reccomend PIAA yellow bulbs to anyone who is looking for more performance out of bulbs rather then just looks.

i picked up a set of silverstars on sale at checker ( kragen i think in cali) for 20.00 a bulb plus a five dollar rebate. I was VERY surprised at the difference over stock. with just one in i did a comparison and was very surprised at how much brighter and especially whiter the light was. I would recomend them for sure.

The only problem with Sylvania's Silverstar bulbs is that they're DOT approved, so they are bright, but not nearly as bright as Raybrig, Polarg, or PIAA bulbs.

Nokya is hit and miss. I had 2 sets in my moms jag that didnt last a month each. The 3rd set went over a year before we gave the car back at the end of the lease.

i use to buy all of those other brand bulbs like piaa, raybrig and hiper but they always blew out on me after like 4-5 months then i bought my silverstars and they have lasted me forever. as far as how bright they are i always get people asking me if they are piaas or what not i honestly can't tell the diference between the two.

JDM IPF HIDs for me.

I honestly think the stock bulbs are great and won't blow out/fade in blueness over time...but if you really want to go with blue bulbs, I would reccomend silverstars.

I went to Pep Boys and found Super White bulbs from APC.

I been searching for only white, i am tired of the bluish look .

The glass looks like the PIAA bulb, not too bluish. More like a light blue.
In the day it my headlight still looks chrome and at night it's REALLY WHITE.

Check out the pics on my profile. The pics dont do justice because my Digital cam is old (one of the very fisrt ones :? )

By the way i also changed the fog lights to APC as well. Each pair was $29.99 not bad.

When i had my civic, i had the PIAA and i was surprised it was comparable.

Here is a pic what they look like. But in reality they are less blue.

H4 (9004) for the headlights

HB3 (9006) for the fogs

i heard that when putting these types of bulbs in that there is a chance of the wiring overheating due to using more amps or something?

is this true? and is there really need to be concerned with wiring problems with PIAA or Nokya type bulbs?

thanks!!

I think i saw the same thing it was a typo..

When i bought my APC headlights the box said H4 (9003)

For the fogs 9006 is correct.

Hope this helps..

Woot! First post! :D LOL

Anywho...I love Polarg, PIAA, and Solaris brands myself. I don't have my scion yet (being the fact that I'm in TX) but I'm currently running a set of Solaris 80/100 Watt bulbs  in my truck (1997 Ranger XLT 2.3L...0-60 in ten minutes! WOOHOO!) and love'em! Anyone else tried this brand? (just curious...)

Nokya are probably the underrated bulbs out there, yeah there are a hit and miss but from my experience for under 25 bucks, ive never had problem with them on any of the three cars i have owned. I even had comments that they thought my scion Xb had HID lights on them. Also they shine cleaner then some of my friends cars that have PIAA light bulbs, just my 2 cents. rock on. :P

I use to use the Nokya bulbs, but just like everyone else said, sometimes they worked perfect, and sometimes they dont. Right now, I am using Streetglow, blue tint to them, abut not as much as the noks. Plus I am a dealer of both bulbs so I basically have a lifetime warranty for them.

Before my xB i had a 2002 Durango. After 1 month of putting my Nokya bulbs, they kept going out. They were never burnt out, though. I figured out they melted the harness socket and caused it to loosen up the connection. I had to replace the sockets with the heavy duty ones from PepBoys.

just my 2 cents

I can't stand silverstars - too much, and the burn out toooo quickely. My pairs only lasted aroudn 6 months. Here's a quote from another forum I visit:

"Well, my driver's side headlamp burned out the other day and it was a Sylvania Cool Blue. Lasted about 15months.

I replaced both lamps with Philips 9004HV (high visibility). I was rather disappointed at Cool Blue's short life so I went to their site and looked up the life.

The Cool Blue 9004's low beam filament is rated at 200 hrs, high beam 75 hrs. Their regular 9004 is 320hrs/150hrs.

Silverstar is plain disgusting. They're about $20each and to make it even more painful, the life rating is 150hrs low beam, 50hrs high beam.

The difference in life between regular and silverstar/coolblue is even more drastic for 9006's.
9006 long life 1500hrs
9006 regular 1000hrs
9006 coolblue 200hrs
9006 silverstar 150hrs

They hype over how their coolness and visibility enhancement, but what they don't want you to know is they don't last anywhere near as long as ordinary halogen bulbs.

Do you really want to buy something that only have 15% the useful life of standard bulb for 2 to 3 times the cost for the adeed whiteness?
