i believe under my insurance, and also through a couple of rep. car mags, it is considered a wagon. This should help with the auto insurance.

It's a wagon. Direct competition would be the Honda Element, PT Cruiser, etc.

Isnt a suv extra expensive on insurance especially compared to a wagon

ghost
01-09-2004, 02:09 AM
Yes, the insurance on SUV's is more expensive for many reasons:

1) The idiotic owners get them in 4WD, which they have no idea how to use. 4WD costs more for insurance companies to cover.
2) They can't see out of the tanks, and run over and hit random stuff.
3) Something that is that big will damage another car more than a compact would.

I have a hatred of Large SUV's and SUV owners. :)

hmmm i just looked at my Mercury amended insurance claim. It says Utility 4x2 4dr.
I will call them today and complain. It is a wagon and NOT an SUV.
I also have a Durango SUV and the insurance is about the same. NOT FAIR!

Sid_xBicious

yeah its a wagon. even my montero sport(2WD) was considered a wagon. but if i had it on 4X4, then they will consider that as SUV= high insurance.

What is USAA? is that an insurance company?

I just called my broker for MERCURY. They said its a Utility. They just input the VIN and the car name. mercury categorizes it as a Utility automatically and there is nothing i can do.

I called over to Longo Scion. Verone was not there till 2pm. The other Scion rep said they consider it as a 5-door hatchback. So i called Torrance Scion where i purchased mine. They said it is considered a sedan.
What the heck!
we need to get Verone to this thread to please confirm. Also to see what we can do about the insurance companies to all be in sync.

Anyone else with Mercury and can look at their policy if it says Utility? I want to see if we can do anything about it.

What is the Avalanche considered? a Truck or an SUV? or does it depend on what you change it to?

$2 extra?? I thought it goes by the size generally the SUV are large cars that is why the $2 extra.

When i take my Durango it is considered a midsize $1 extra. My friend's Tahoe is $2 extra.

the xB is so tiny, its the easiest car to dry. For God's sake the hood is half the size of any other car.

Go to another car wash and see if they charge the extra $2.

I think the whole world is confused of our ALIEN CAR

scion is a 5 door wagon. unibody chassis, under 2500 pounds, etc. the honda element is a truck based SUV because of it's weight and frame. totally different cars. i don't know how they keep getting compared to each other. the G500 has more in common with the scion than the element does. except for price, of course.

No kidding? I love USAA...they've been awesome for me, and I pay $120 a month...under 25 with a license suspension. Actually, I just turned 25 so it'll probably go down.

Just thought i would pass this along....

I called my insurance company today to cancel my Accent and i just recieved my renewal info from the insurance company ( Liberty Mutual ). To insure my Accent with 2 points on my lisence, was $1045 annually. L.M. says that the xB is a UTILITY VEHICLE; thankfully not SUV, and my insurance went up 100 bucks to $1150. Under 96 bucks a month to insure my xB for a year, nice.

...the honda element is a truck based SUV because of it's weight and frame. totally different cars...

The Honda Element, while much heavier than the xB, also has unit-body construction, not a truck style frame.
