Default Advice on Hand Brake problem !

Im having problems with my hand brake, where even if its pulled up all the way, the car still rolls back !

I was told the hand break needs re-adjusting. Any ideas as how to do that.

is it done like the hundai tiburon, by hard braking and dis engaging the ABS ?

and do i break forward or backward?

or should i readjust the bolts ?

thanks !

anyone had a problem with their hand brake ?

It gets adjusted at the brake drums, not at the handle. You need a special tool to do it, sometimes you can use a long screwdriver. It's just a slit in the back/side of the drum that has a toothed wheel which needs to be rotated.

Also, if you back out of a parking space/driveway, and just put it in drive or first, without hitting the brakes, then you're causing it to go out of specs. When you back up and hit the brakes, the drums will automatically adjust.

I already searched for the e brake topics, and it was all about people worrying about the e btrake because the car is moving a little.

but mine rolls all the way, and definitely need adjusting.

there are two ways to adjust also, some say through the brake drums, and others say near the center console, near the brake handle.

i need to know so i can fix this problem....

The adjustment at the center console is a trim adjustment, not meant to be used to make large adjustments. Adjust it at the drums.

It's in the brake section, since you're not a premium member you're limited, but if you're doing it this weekend, then you've got 5 days worth of viewing. Just follow the OEM procedure and you'll be ok.

adjust them at the drum all the way until the drum doesn't move anymore, then flick the little adjuster thing back the other way 1 or 2 times.

It's not worth taking to the dealer, so long as you got a jack stand and a long flat head screwdriver.

I adjusted the brake all the way til the rotor doesn't spin anymore and flicked it back 3 times, just to be sure.

Two easy things to watch out for though is make sure you do the same number of clicks backwards on both sides.

And this is a lesser problem but don't really manhandle the adjustment things because you can break a tooth. Just gently find the adjuster and smoothly flick in the direction you want to go.

if you still have warranty, why not?

I was having a similar problem, so I took it in, they adjusted it, BUT the idiots tightened it instead of loosening it. I got ____ed and didn't want to wait another hour so i went home and did it myself.

If you feel comfortable doing stuff yourself, then go for it, its easy

-jack your car up
-take off your rear tires
-take off the rubber cap to reveal the gear/bolt or whatever its called
-get a flat screwdriver and rotate it up/down until its perfect

I had this same problem after dropping my car.. Adjusting the cable from the handle isn't going to do anything, you're going to need to adjust it from the rear brakes themselves.. Follow this guide: http://www.clubsciontc.com/forum_thr...ust-shoes.html

It's pretty straight forward, it'll take maybe 15 minutes to fix.

i readjusted mine several months back and it was great! i love the feeling of pulling it up about 2-3 clicks and it fully locks! now, it's back to where it started. i gotta pull mine up about 7-8 clicks now. so do i have to keep on readjusting it after it gets loose again?

It shouldn't loosen up again if you adjusted it via the gear in the rear hubs :o

Would this take care of my eBrake having to go up too high? I ordered a e-brake boot from RedLine but it doesn't fit because the brake goes up way too damn high
