Finally, a step by step on how to apply my Vinyl Overlays, particularly on curved surfaces! Moderators, feel free to sticky this ;).

1. Make sure surface is clean before starting.

2. Peel Overlay from backing and dip in a bucket of warm soap and water. I usually squirt just a dab of dishwashing liquid in a bucket and fill it halfway.

3. Carefully place Overlay on surface, and position it.

http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/vinyl_overlays/IMGP2396.jpg

4. Once you have the Overlay placed exactly where you want it. Start by heating up one end. This will help the vinyl become pliable and easy to work with.

http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/vinyl_overlays/IMGP2397.jpg

5. Then, take a squeegy or credit card and wrap it in a soft damp cloth to prevent scratching the Overlay. Start by applying pressure from one end and slowly work your way across the center of it.

6. Now, you may be discouraged because of all the wrinkles towards the ends. Don't be. Begin heating the sides up.

7. Now, slowly work your squeegy from the middle outward. Do it slowly. This will ensure the vinyl is dispursed evenly over the surface.

8. Any overlapping areas can be tucked under the edges. Again, use a hairdryer, then tuck Overlay.

9. Tada!

Bat,

I just had a chance to check out your website. I'll check it out again when I get home (the CRT here at work stinks), but from what I can see, your overlays look great.

Nice job, bud!

Ice Blue? See my g35 Gallery, there's Ice Blue there. Also, I believe my Vibe Gallery has pics with the lights on. The light looks hyper blue when lit :).

Your site isn't working...only the pics site is. I just want to know how much yellow overlays for the fogs would be, and the partial red out for the tails?

Nice tech write-up, and looks good.

Food for thought, this is illegal in Washington State, and WSP will be happy to scratch ya a fat $101.00 ticket and make you remove it as well.

I think you need to do a step-by-step walkthrough on how to install your overlays on the xB taillights.

As the xB taillights are a little more difficult (due to the upper-outer corners) than 350Z taillights

Here are some helpful tips from member Speedpunk on applying my tC Full Smoke Taillight Overlay:

It wasn't very difficult, just time consuming.
The items I used were:
chair (start with one, or you'll just end up interrupting to go get one),
blow dryer,
spray bottle with soapy water,
blue 3M squeegee (I asked my local sign shop and they gave me one. They have them by the dozens. Tint shops also carry them),
and frosty beverages of your choice.

After cleaning my taillights, I sprayed both the light and the adhesive side of the overlay and lined everything up. Once lined up, squeegee some of the water out of the middle, enough to get the overlay to stick. To ensure that the squeegee doesn't rip the vinyl, apply soapy water to the outside of the overlay once in position. Crank up the dryer on medium heat, and start gently pulling as you squeegee. Be sure to keep any area that is not squeegee'd out wet with soapy water (failure to do so will leave fingerprints). If you get creases, pull the overlay back up to the crease and start again, making sure to apply soapy water (again). The vinyl can stretch quite a bit, as long as the heat is not too high or it is not pulled too hard too fast I hope this helps some. The top is the most difficult, but heat, soapy water, and patience is the key.

Not to take anything away from bat's tips and install guides, but headlight armor does have a little tutorial w/ pics for applying to xb tails. Check it out here: http://headlightarmor.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=11 Just hoping that this could help people out who want to see pics of overlays being applied to xb tails. I'll be putting my full redout overlays on today (from whom I bought from bat), so if I don't jack them up I'll post pics in the exterior/aero forum.
